How to buy Reboot Cards in Fortnite
Since its launch in Season 8 of Fortnite Battle Royale, the reboot mechanic has dramatically transformed team-oriented modes like Duos, Trios, and Squads. When a player is eliminated, they drop a Reboot Card, a small chip that hovers at the spot of their defeat. Teammates must hurry to retrieve the card before it disappears and take it to one of the Reboot Vans scattered across the map.
Activating the van requires a tense 10 seconds, bringing the eliminated player back with only 100 health, a Common Pistol, and 100 wood, which leaves them vulnerable but still able to participate in the game. This high-pressure element adds strategic complexity, compelling teams to weigh the risks of collecting cards amidst enemy fire against the decision to leave a teammate behind in pursuit of a Victory Royale. Although Reboot Vans cannot be destroyed, they emit a loud sound and a blue light when activated, attracting unwanted attention and heightening the challenge.
Recent updates have enhanced this mechanic, enabling faster reboots when multiple teammates engage with the van and introducing automatic card pickups for a smoother process. Fortnite has introduced a new feature that could alter team dynamics: the ability to buy Reboot Cards. As Chapter 6 Season 2 approaches its end, this addition is set to modify the way players handle team revivals. Here’s how it functions.
How to buy Reboot Cards and where to find them in Fortnite Season 2
The introduction of Reboot Cards in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 has shifted squad gameplay by offering a safer method for bringing back eliminated teammates. To purchase a Reboot Card, players need to visit any of the Reboot Vans located across the island (with locations indicated below), recognizable by their blue map symbols. Each card costs 500 Gold Bars, which can be earned by defeating opponents, looting Vaults, opening Safes, or breaking Cash Registers. Ensure you have enough Gold before heading to a van, as reviving three squad members will cost a total of 1,500 Gold.
The process is straightforward: approach a Reboot Van and interact with it to access the purchasing option. This feature lights up when a teammate’s Reboot Card is in a dangerous zone, such as where they were eliminated, or near enemy campers. Unlike the traditional reboot method, buying a card eliminates the need to retrieve it from the point of elimination, thereby reducing risk.
After making a purchase, the reboot procedure is the same: hold the interaction for 10 seconds to revive your teammate, who will respawn with 100 health, a Common Pistol, and 100 wood. Be tactical: Reboot Vans create noise and a blue light that can attract enemies, so it’s wise to scout for threats first. Managing your Gold is essential, as spending 500 on each card can drain resources needed for other purchases, like Black Market items.
