Ryan Coogler is a genuine film enthusiast, so much so that he found inspiration for Sinners from an unexpected source: an animated film.

In an interview with Get Rec’d with Straw Hat Goofy on YouTube, Coogler revealed that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish significantly influenced the character of the villain in Sinners.

“I often discuss the influences on this film, Sinners,” Coogler stated. “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a major one.”

While the main character, Puss, garners much attention, Coogler concentrated on the film's antagonist, the Wolf, who ultimately reveals himself as Death. He noted the red eyes of Death and incorporated this trait into the evil characters of Sinners, particularly Jack O’Connell’s Remick.

“Consider the villain Death, think about his key characteristics [the eyes], and his behavior,” Coogler mentioned, referencing Death’s impact on Sinners.

Coogler also acknowledged Louis Gonzales, a veteran animator from Pixar, for his contribution in storyboarding these essential aspects of Sinners.

Sinners marks Coogler's fifth film as both writer and director. Michael B. Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown in the southern United States during the 1930s for a new beginning. However, their return is interrupted when they encounter an “even greater evil” present in the town.

The film features a cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, Li Jun Li, and Delroy Lindo.

Described as a supernatural horror with vampiric and musical features, Sinners was produced on a $100 million budget and is projected to earn between $30 million and $40 million in domestic ticket sales during its opening weekend (according to Box Office Theory).

Warner Bros. is set to release Sinners in theaters on April 18.

Has Netflix discovered its equivalent to Yellowstone with Ransom Canyon?

Every major network and streaming service is on the hunt for the next Yellowstone. The Taylor Sheridan Western series is a phenomenal success in viewership and has developed its own television universe through spin-offs. Netflix aims to attract Yellowstone fans with its latest Western, Ransom Canyon, which has finally released a trailer.

"In Ransom Canyon, everyone's either fleeing from something or pursuing something," states Josh Duhamel's Staten Kirkland in the trailer. Staten, a widower still mourning his wife's death, owns the Double K Ranch in Texas Hill Country. His lifestyle is endangered as rival families vie for control of the land. Despite the impending conflict, Staten attempts to pursue romance again with Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), who returns to Ransom after a period in New York where she managed the local dance hall.

Combining land disputes with romance, Ransom Canyon merges the dramatic elements of Yellowstone with the appealing charm of Virgin River.

In addition to Duhamel and Kelly, Ransom Canyon features Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman, James Brolin as Cap Fuller, Eoin Macken as Davis Collins, Meta Golding as Paula Jo, Marianly Tejada as Ellie Catawnee, Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey, Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell, and Andrew Liner as Reid Collins.
