NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Wednesday, April 16.
Connections is regarded as one of the top puzzle games from the New York Times. The game challenges you to categorize a set of 16 words into four secret groups by discerning their relationships. The puzzle resets nightly at midnight, with each new puzzle featuring various levels of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, it allows you to track your winning streak and compare scores with friends.
Some days may present more challenges than others, much like other favorites from NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're struggling to solve today's puzzle, refer to our Connections tips and tricks guide for effective strategies, or check out the hints for today's Connections puzzle below. If you still can't find the solution, we will provide today's answers at the conclusion.

You can enjoy Connections on the New York Times website or via the NYT Games app on iOS or Android.
In Connections, you will see a grid of 16 words, and your goal is to organize them into four sets of four by recognizing the connections that relate them. The groups could represent concepts such as titles from video game series, sequels to book series, shades of red, names of restaurant chains, and more.
There are often words that might fit into multiple themes, but there is only one completely correct answer. You have the option to shuffle the grid of words and rearrange them to better visualize possible connections.
Each group is distinguished by color coding. The yellow group is the easiest to identify, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.
Select four words and click Submit. If you’re correct, those four words will be removed from the grid, and the theme linking them will be disclosed. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake. You have a limit of four mistakes before the game concludes.

Who edits the NYT Connections game?
Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, is the daily editor of Connections.
“A few months ago, a new assignment came to me: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and was looking for an editor,” Liu explained in an article about her process in June 2024. "Most of my background is in crossword puzzles, and I was eager to explore something different. I’ve enjoyed discovering how puzzle editing evolves once a game is greenlit and observing how our team integrates into a larger framework.”
On the anniversary of Connections’ launch earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok showcasing her favorite puzzles to date:
