Nvidia has officially announced three new GPUs, some of which will compete against the top graphics cards in the mainstream market. Additionally, new laptops are on the horizon. Nvidia's announcement reveals what to anticipate from the upcoming RTX 50-series lineup.
Team Green is maintaining its pricing for its historically most popular GPU, the RTX 5060, which will start at $299—matching the recommended list price (MSRP) of the RTX 4060. This isn't surprising, and the main concern is whether these cards will actually be available at that MSRP, as many models in the RTX 50-series have not been.
The surprise announcement involves the RTX 5060 Ti in its two variants, as Nvidia is actually lowering the prices compared to their previous-generation counterparts. The 16GB version will debut at $429, while the 8GB version will start at $379, both lower than the respective prices of $499 for the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and $399 for the 8GB variant.
The RTX 5060 Ti is equipped with either 16GB or 8GB of GDDR7 RAM clocked at 28Gbps, and both versions feature a 128-bit bus, yielding 448GB/s of memory bandwidth. Both cards have a total graphics power (TGP) of 180 watts, along with 4,608 CUDA cores and a boost clock of 2,572MHz.
In contrast, the RTX 5060 has fewer cores, totaling 3,840, and offers 8GB of VRAM on a 128-bit bus (which means the same bandwidth). This card will have a TGP of 145 watts, representing a significant increase over the last generation’s RTX 4060.
All three cards were announced today, with availability beginning tomorrow (April 16) for the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. The 8GB variant is expected to follow "shortly after," while the RTX 5060 is slated for release in May.
Nvidia has also unveiled new laptops powered by the RTX 5060, starting at a price of $1,099, which is only slightly less than the initial pricing of the RTX 5070 laptops. The actual situation is quite different, as many models are priced above the MSRP. Companies such as Acer, Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer will all manufacture laptops featuring these new mainstream GPUs.

Nvidia RTX 5070 available at suggested price at Best Buy, grab it now
Though it's the day after April Fool’s Day, this is no joke. The sought-after Nvidia RTX 5070 is currently available at Best Buy for its standard suggested price of $550. There have been reports of increased availability of RTX 50-series graphics cards, including exclusive offers for Amazon Prime members. This availability is a fortunate opportunity for those who wish to avoid overspending on a graphics component. Nvidia's GPUs have faced significant markup from resellers and scalpers, making the rising costs of the cheapest option quite frustrating. In March, retailers attempted to inflate the price of the mid-range RTX 5070 Ti to $1,000, but backlash led to a return to a more reasonable price point.
Amazon has AMD and Nvidia GPU stock for you, but you’ll need Prime
Amazon seems to be taking steps to mitigate GPU scalping by reserving some stock of Nvidia's RTX 5000 and AMD's Radeon 9000 series graphics cards exclusively for Prime subscribers. Reportedly by Club386, select high-end GPUs are now accessible only to Prime members, potentially limiting the influence of scalpers and resellers. Interestingly, Amazon has not officially confirmed this as an anti-scalping measure, leaving room for speculation regarding its intent. Several Nvidia RTX 5000 series GPUs, spanning from the RTX 5080 to the RTX 5070, are listed as "reserved for Prime members" on Amazon, thus restricting access for non-members. The flagship RTX 5090 is notably excluded, likely due to its elevated price, while the RTX 40 series remains unaffected, possibly due to dwindling stock.
Nvidia’s RTX 5080 laptop GPU almost makes the flagship obsolete
Nvidia produces some of the best laptop graphics cards available, but some of these GPUs might be more competitive in performance than anticipated. The laptop version of the RTX 5080 has been benchmarked, and its performance is astonishingly close to that of the RTX 5090. Are laptops featuring the RTX 5090 still worth purchasing?
