Horror legend Mike Flanagan has been associated with a Carrie TV series since October, and it is now officially confirmed with Amazon.

Prime Video has greenlit Carrie, an eight-episode series inspired by Stephen King’s classic horror novel from 1974. According to Deadline, Flanagan will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for Carrie, in addition to directing several episodes. Trevor Macy, Flanagan’s associate at Intrepid Pictures, will also be an executive producer.

Flanagan's connection to Carrie was first reported in the fall of 2024. The series will offer a fresh take on the narrative of Carrie White, a high school girl living with her overly protective mother. Following her father's unexpected death, Carrie struggles with the challenges of public high school, a bullying incident that disrupts her community, and the awakening of her mysterious telekinetic powers, as detailed in the synopsis.

Casting for the main characters is currently in progress. Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky, Hunter Hunter) is in discussions to portray Carrie White, while Siena Agudong (Resident Evil, Sidelined: The QB and Me) will take on the role of Carrie’s rival, Sue Snell.

Two years after King's novel was published, Brian De Palma directed the 1976 film Carrie, which remains the most renowned adaptation to date. The film starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, Amy Irving as Sue Snell, John Travolta as Billy Nolan, and Piper Laurie as Margaret White, Carrie’s mother. De Palma's version is often regarded as one of the most significant horror films in the past 60 years.

Since 1976, three additional films within the Carrie universe have been released: 1999’s The Rage: Carrie 2, a sequel to the original; 2002’s Carrie, an NBC movie directed by Bryan Fuller; and the 2013 remake, Carrie, which starred Chloë Grace Moretz.

Flanagan’s Carrie will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos paid nearly $1 billion for the creative rights to James Bond.

The name’s Bezos, Jeff Bezos. The Amazon CEO was highly motivated to secure the rights to James Bond and was prepared to pay whatever was necessary to obtain them.

Following Amazon's acquisition of creative control over the Bond franchise, The Hollywood Reporter released an article detailing the tumultuous relationship between Bezos and Bond's producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

The most valuable asset in Amazon's $8.5 billion purchase of MGM was the rights to 007. James Bond stands as one of the most iconic franchises globally. Gaining the intellectual property for Bond allows Amazon to expand the franchise into new ventures, particularly spin-off films and TV series.

However, Broccoli and Wilson, who maintained creative authority over 007, obstructed Amazon's efforts to take over the intellectual property. After acquiring MGM, Amazon reportedly pitched spin-off concepts to the Bond producers, including a series centered on MI6 secretary Moneypenny and CIA agent Felix Leiter, both of which were dismissed by Broccoli and Wilson.
