3 must-watch Hulu movies to stream this weekend (April 11 – 13)

      Hulu has introduced several new films over the past week, including some that either went unnoticed in theaters or bypassed them entirely. While not every recent addition is of equal quality, two stand out as excellent options for great movies to stream on Hulu this weekend.

      The films in focus are a thriller titled Magpie and an intense period drama, Small Things Like These. To start off on a lighter note, we’ll begin with an action comedy featuring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, which has also just landed on Hulu.

      The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)

      In The Spy Who Dumped Me, Audrey Stockman (Mila Kunis) is experiencing a particularly dreadful birthday. As suggested by the title of this action comedy, her boyfriend Drew Thayer (Justin Theroux) has ended their relationship on this special day. However, she had no idea that he was a spy until enemy agents appeared to eliminate them.

      This predicament forces Audrey and her best friend, Morgan Freeman (Kate McKinnon), to flee with information that is evidently worth killing for. The two women can only rely on each other for trust. To reclaim their former lives, they must survive a chaotic journey through Europe.

      Magpie (2024)

      Star Wars star Daisy Ridley and former Star Trek: Discovery actor Shazad Latif portray a married couple in the neo-noir thriller Magpie. Anette (Ridley) and Ben (Latif) are not enjoying a happy marriage, despite their young daughter Matilda (Hiba Ahmed) being cast in a Hollywood production with a well-known actress, Alicia (Matilda Lutz).

      While accompanying his daughter on set, Ben begins to develop feelings for Alicia. Meanwhile, Anette is at home looking after their newborn and dealing with pressure from her husband. There’s only so much Anette can take before she loses her composure, and her breaking point may arrive sooner than anticipated.

      Small Things Like These (2024)

      Cillian Murphy stars in the period drama Small Things Like These, one of his first roles after his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer. Bill Furlong (Murphy) is a coal merchant trying to support his family in late 1980s Ireland when he discovers a young pregnant woman, Sarah (Zara Devlin), locked in a shed at a convent.

      Bill doesn’t initially recognize that he’s uncovered evidence of the nuns at the convent mistreating the women. However, he quickly becomes aware of Sister Mary's (Emily Watson) attempts to silence him through intimidation and bribery. If Bill probes too deeply or mentions what he’s witnessed, he risks serious consequences. After all he has endured, can Bill truly ignore Sarah’s plight?
