It’s hard to believe that Instagram has yet to release a dedicated app for the iPad. The iPad made its debut in 2010, shortly followed by the launch of the Instagram app. However, there has not been an official Instagram app for the iPad for nearly 15 years… but this situation may soon change. According to a recent report, Meta is working on developing an Instagram app for the iPad.
The Information and The Verge have reported that the iPad version of Instagram has finally begun development. It’s important to note that Meta has not confirmed this, and it remains uncertain if or when the app will be available for download, but this update is more than what we’ve heard in recent years.
When questioned about creating a dedicated iPad app, Meta typically ignored the inquiry or stated that it wasn’t a current priority. Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, previously responded on X (Twitter), saying, “It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now, we’re very focused on other things.”
In response, one user pointed out that the user base would grow if there were a dedicated app. Mosseri provided some intriguing commentary, indicating that each platform “adds overhead,” meaning that expanding to more platforms incurs additional costs. He also mentioned that TikTok and YouTube are “behemoths,” which compel Instagram to adapt. Lastly, he implied, “We are leaner than you think,” suggesting that the team might not have had the capacity to extend to the iPad.

That said, Instagram is functional on the iPad — it just isn’t optimized for it. You can use the iPhone app, which appears odd on a larger screen, or the web version, which adjusts properly. Nevertheless, many users would definitely appreciate an app designed solely for the iPad.
If this is indeed the case, what has changed? The Information suggests that the ongoing upheaval surrounding TikTok has driven Meta to focus more on Instagram.
A lot is currently happening at Apple, with WWDC dates confirmed and iOS 19 on the horizon. It would be great for Meta to launch the iPad app soon, but there is no certainty about if or when that will occur.

Gemini app finally receives the world-understanding Project Astra update
At MWC 2025, Google announced that its experimental Project Astra assistant will be widely released in March. It appears that the feature has begun reaching users in phases, starting with Android smartphones.
On Reddit, one user posted a demo video showcasing a new “Share Screen With Live” feature when the Gemini Assistant is activated. Additionally, the Gemini Live interface has introduced two new options for live video and screen sharing.
Google has also confirmed to The Verge that these features are on the rollout path. Up until now, Gemini has only offered contextual on-screen awareness thanks to the “Ask about screen” feature.

Apple’s rumored foldable iPad and iPhone may debut by 2027
Numerous major tech companies have introduced folding devices, but while Samsung is currently on its sixth generation of the Galaxy Z Fold and Google is on its second Pixel Fold, Apple has yet to enter the market.
This isn’t unusual, as Apple often launches features and designs somewhat later than others, and sometimes not at all — for instance, it has never released an under-display fingerprint sensor.
I tried Foto, the anti-Instagram, and found it both wonderful and intimidating
I don’t harbor hatred towards Instagram, but the Meta-owned social app is undergoing changes that have turned off quite a few users, myself included. In light of these modifications, one app has made enticing promises to photographers and creatives that are hard to ignore. It’s called Foto, and after months in private beta, it is now accessible to everyone on Android and iOS.
Here’s why you should give it a try, why I appreciate it, and also why it truly intimidated me.
What are Foto’s promises?
