During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, attentive fans noticed a brief teaser for Hollow Knight: Silksong, and now Team Cherry Games has confirmed that the eagerly awaited title will be available on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. This announcement follows fans' worries that the game might be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, but it has now been clarified that this is not the case. In fact, it will also be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series (and available on Game Pass), although the specific launch date is still unknown.
Matthew Griffin, a member of the marketing team at Team Cherry Games, took to social media to address any misunderstandings. Silksong is one of those titles that is often discussed more as a rumor than a confirmed fact, so it is exciting when the development team shares new information.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially announced in 2019 but has faced numerous delays, leading fans to associate it with titles like Star Citizen and other "unfinished" projects. In 2022, Team Cherry Games indicated that Silksong would be released within a year, but a follow-up in May 2023 announced it would be delayed indefinitely.
The recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct provided a vague release window for 2025, but no specific date within that timeframe. By this reasoning, the game should launch sometime in the next eight months, but until an official release date is given, it's wise to remain cautious about expectations.
If you enjoyed the original Hollow Knight and are eager for more, patience will be necessary. In the meantime, 2024 has seen a plethora of great Metroidvania games, so try other Switch Metroidvanias to satisfy your gaming cravings.

I played 11 Nintendo Switch 2 games. Here’s my take on each
It's been an eventful week for Nintendo enthusiasts. On Wednesday, the company unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 during an impressively executed Direct presentation. That burst of excitement soon turned to concern as players grappled with the console's contentious pricing strategy. Then sheer panic ensued as President Donald Trump's newly announced tariffs on foreign imports led Nintendo to delay preorders for the system in the United States. It's understandable that Nintendo fans are feeling a bit anxious right now.
The bright side is that the Switch 2 is still expected to launch on June 5 and will bring a plethora of exciting games with it. The Nintendo Switch 2 has one minor omission that highlights a larger issue
With the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that Nintendo is finally catching up with competitors like PlayStation and Xbox. This isn’t solely about 4K visuals and 120fps frame rates. For instance, Nintendo has finally implemented a unified account system, allowing players to transfer their original Switch purchases to the new console. Previous Nintendo consoles and handheld devices had isolated digital purchases.
The Switch 2 also features its own voice chat system known as GameChat, which enables players to communicate with friends and other online gamers. Unified account systems and built-in voice chats are features that Xbox and PlayStation developed in the 2000s and 2010s, but for Nintendo, it’s better late than never.
