Nintendo has just secured a major console exclusive for the Switch and Switch 2.
Supergiant Games
Supergiant has just announced that Hades 2 will be a launch exclusive for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, with plans to release it on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series at a later date. The studio shared this information in the most recent Creator’s Voice episode featuring Nintendo, where Greg Kasavin, Amir Rao, and Darren Korb, leaders of the studio, discussed the development process and the inspiration behind the new gameplay elements in the sequel.
Hades 2 marks the studio’s first sequel and serves as a direct continuation of its predecessor, which won several Game of the Year awards. Up until now, all of their games have been standalone experiences like Bastion and Transistor. “After more than 15 years, we decided to give it a try,” Kasavin remarked. “We take sequels very seriously and approach them with both caution and respect,” he added with a chuckle.
The team is focused on the game’s performance and the fluidity of its controls, crediting many of these qualities to the hardware advancements of the Nintendo Switch 2.
“We gained invaluable insights from developing the original game on Nintendo Switch and wanted to build on those for the Nintendo Switch 2. For us, that meant being absolutely uncompromising on performance,” stated Rao, Studio Director at Supergiant Games. “We are very keen to ensure our games run at 60 frames per second, and with the enhanced capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, we are confident we can elevate some graphical features thanks to the extra power.”
Regrettably, you will have to wait for the launch. Neither Nintendo nor Supergiant Games has provided a specific date, but the Creator’s Voice video concludes with a note saying “more information coming later this year.” Rao wrapped up the presentation by expressing gratitude to fans, stating, “We couldn’t create these games without the support of our community, and we deeply appreciate it.”
If you’re eager to play the sequel to one of the most acclaimed roguelikes of the past decade, it is currently available in early access on Steam.

The saving grace amidst this turmoil is that the Switch 2 is still scheduled for a June 5 launch, accompanied by a plethora of exciting games. During a press event on Wednesday, I got hands-on experience with nearly a dozen Switch 2 titles, ranging from prominent first-party games to Switch 2 Editions of classic favorites.
