The highly anticipated trading feature in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has stirred up controversy since it was introduced, but now the developers have announced that one of its most frustrating aspects will soon be a thing of the past. In a post on the official Pokémon forums, the developers have declared that “trade tokens will be entirely eliminated, and players will no longer need to trade cards” to acquire the needed currency. Instead of using trade tokens, trades will now utilize shinedust for three- and four-diamond trades, as well as for one-star rarity trades.
Shinedust is already available, and the post indicates that the amount earned will increase since it will now serve multiple purposes. The developers state that this update will enable players to trade a greater number of cards compared to the current system. When trade tokens are phased out, any tokens players currently possess will automatically convert to shinedust, although specifics regarding the exchange rate have not been disclosed.
As a part of these changes, whenever you receive a duplicate of a card you already own, you will be awarded shinedust. However, there won't be any alterations to the trades involving one- and two-diamond cards.
Another exciting feature on the horizon is the ability to flag specific cards you are searching for within the in-game trading function. While not explicitly mentioned, this could facilitate players in seeking trades based on card type, making it easier to track down that elusive card that has proven to be difficult to obtain.
The developers have announced that all these changes are scheduled to be implemented by the conclusion of autumn 2025. Although they did not provide a more precise date, it is expected that it will occur by mid-November at the latest.
