      Michael Fassbender had hopes of entering the Wasteland in Mad Max: Fury Road, but that opportunity never materialized. Fassbender recently shared details about his audition for Fury Road on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, referring to it as one of his “worst” auditions. “Oh my God. It was awful,” he recounted.

      The Oscar-nominated actor explained that the audition got off to a bad start even before he entered the audition room, as he got lost on his way to the Warner Bros. lot. “I was going to Warner Bros. in the Valley, not complicated,” Fassbender clarified. “I got lost and arrived almost an hour late. I was not in the right mindset.” Upon his late arrival, he encountered George Miller’s acting coach, which only made things worse.

      “It was so excruciating,” Fassbender remarked about the acting coach. “I’ve been classically trained, so I have my own process where the character has objectives and activities I pursue to achieve them. I felt like I was teaching grandma how to suck eggs. This guy really irritated me.”

      Fassbender humorously described how the coach wanted him to “physicalize” his performance after saying a line, which made things even more difficult for him. “I couldn’t wait to leave. Obviously, I didn’t get the part,” he jokingly said. “Tom Hardy got the role, and rightfully so.”

      As stated by Fassbender, Hardy portrayed “Mad Max” Rockatansky in Fury Road, which is considered one of the most critically acclaimed action films of the 21st century. Perhaps Fassbender will have another opportunity to explore the Wasteland if Miller creates another Mad Max installment.
