Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell might take the lead roles in the remake of Single White Female.

The cult classic erotic thriller Single White Female may be getting a remake featuring two of Hollywood's up-and-coming actresses. Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are reportedly in discussions to star in and produce this new version of the 1992 film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the remake is being developed by Elizabeth Gabler's 3000 Pictures in collaboration with Sony Pictures. The original film, based on John Lutz's novel SWF Seeks Same, was co-written by Lutz and Don Roos for director Barbet Schroeder. In the movie, Bridget Fonda played Allison, a young woman looking for a new roommate after her unfaithful ex-boyfriend was removed from her apartment. What she found was Hedra (portrayed by Jennifer Jason Leigh), a controlling woman who infiltrated Allison's life and began to mimic her. As Hedra's behavior became increasingly unstable, she posed a genuine threat to Allison and her acquaintances.
The report does not clarify whether Ortega or Russell will portray the dangerously obsessive roommate. Additionally, the film's title may need to be changed, as both actresses are women of color. Alternatively, they might keep the name Single White Female for ironic purposes or brand recognition.
Among the two actresses, Ortega is arguably the more prominent star, having led Netflix’s Wednesday and secured a main role in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She has a new film, Death of a Unicorn, set to release at the end of March, where she plays the daughter of Paul Rudd's character. After accidentally hitting a unicorn with their vehicle, this father-daughter pair takes the creature with them to a retreat, leading to chaos.
Russell also starred in a lead role in Netflix’s reboot of Lost in Space in 2018. She gained further recognition after starring in Waves and alongside Timothee Chalamet in the romantic horror film Bones and All. Currently, she is scheduled to appear in Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.
