Warner Bros. addresses the 'disc rot' problem related to its movie DVDs.
Movie enthusiasts with a carefully curated DVD collection may want to inspect the state of any Warner Bros. discs in their possession. It has come to light that numerous DVD titles produced by the entertainment company between 2006 and 2008 have fallen victim to a well-known issue referred to as "disc rot." This condition leads to deterioration in a DVD's quality, causing freezing, glitches, or complete failure during playback. DVDs that are stored and handled correctly should not deteriorate in such a brief period, indicating there may have been a significant problem during the manufacturing process affecting these specific Warner Bros. discs.
The good news is that the company has recognized the issue and is providing replacements—though not refunds—for the discs that are impacted, but only if the film is still available, provided Warner Bros. retains the rights to it. In a statement shared by the movie site JoBlo, Warner Bros. acknowledged that it is “aware of potential issues affecting select DVD titles manufactured between 2006 – 2008, and the company has been actively working with consumers to replace defective discs.” The statement further explained that “where possible, the defective discs have been swapped for the same title. However, for some titles that are no longer in print or have expired rights, consumers will be given an option to exchange for a title of equivalent value. Consumers with affected products can reach out to customer support at [email protected].”
The problem seems to impact a broad array of titles, including classic Hollywood films like the Stanley Kubrick: Director’s Series edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Superman films up to Superman Returns, and beloved TV shows such as Looney Tunes Collections and Batman: The Animated Series. While Warner Bros. is at least taking steps to address customer frustrations, some people's DVD collections may end up with significant gaps through no fault of their own. JoBlo’s Chris Bumbray, who highlighted the Warner Bros. issue in a report over the weekend, noted that after testing some of his DVDs, he is now left with several “expensive coasters.” Interested in learning how to convert your DVDs to a digital format? If Bluetooth speaker discounts and soundbar offers are insufficient to satisfy your premium audio cravings, you might consider investing in something more robust. The Platin Monaco 5.1.2 wireless home theater system is currently on sale at Amazon for 15% off, reducing the price from $999 to $849. While it is still quite a significant investment, purchasing it now will save you $150.
Why should you consider the Platin Monaco 5.1.2 wireless home theater system? This system, along with the best soundbars, allows you to enjoy the benefits of Dolby Atmos surround sound. However, the key distinguishing feature of the Platin Monaco 5.1.2 is that it operates wirelessly using WiSA technology. This package includes four satellite speakers with two up-firing speakers, a center speaker, and a wireless subwoofer—all of which can be placed freely within your living room. The system comes with a WiSA SoundSend module, serving as both an A/V receiver and wireless transmitter. Unlike soundbars that connect speakers and subwoofers with cables, the Platin Monaco 5.1.2 requires only nearby power outlets for its components.
Q Acoustics, a renowned British speaker manufacturer, has recently unveiled a trio of powerful active subwoofers designed for seamless integration into any audio system without breaking the bank. The Q Sub series features the 8-inch Q SUB80, the 10-inch Q SUB100, and the 12-inch model, Q SUB120, priced between $900 and $1,200, and are now available. Designed to fit into both existing home theater systems or two-channel music setups—whether using Q Acoustics speakers or other brands—these three sizes of Q Sub speakers make it easy to match them with your speakers and the size of your room. With power ratings ranging from 200 to 300 watts of continuous power (and up to 600 watts peak), it’s unlikely you’ll want for more.
