Dolby Atmos delivers an impressive experience when experienced in a well-tuned car cabin, especially in models like the Rivian R1S and Cadillac Optiq. Recently, Dolby and Cadillac have revealed that Atmos will be available across the full range of Cadillac electric vehicles, which includes the Escalade IQL, Escalade IQ, Lyriq-V, Optiq (as announced at CES), and Vistiq. The support will also be included in select 2025 models through an over-the-air update, although the specific models involved were not disclosed in this announcement.
As we now find ourselves spending more time in our vehicles (the Federal Highway Administration reports that Americans drive an astonishing 3 trillion miles annually), having excellent audio quality in our cars has become increasingly important. John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories, comments, “Whether you’re listening to music on a long commute or enjoying a family road trip, music can elevate ordinary moments into something extraordinary.” Cadillac’s Chief Engineer, John Cockburn, adds, “Together, [Cadillac and Dolby] are enhancing audio to new levels by ensuring that the music experience remains true to the artist’s original intent, providing a sound experience that allows consumers to feel as if they are in the music studio with them.”
Previously, Apple Music was the main avenue for experiencing Dolby Atmos Music in an Atmos-enabled vehicle, but that has changed. With the announcement of Atmos support in Cadillac’s 2026 EV lineup and select 2025 models, Atmos Music will now also be accessible via Amazon Music. The rollout of Amazon Atmos support will start with the Cadillac Optiq and Vistiq.

Apple's initiative to boost Dolby Atmos Music could be problematic for the format. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is offering artists more compensation to provide versions of their songs that are recorded in the immersive Dolby Atmos Music format. This seems logical, especially as Apple prepares for the launch of its Apple Vision Pro headset, which will greatly benefit from immersive audio. However, this move could create misleading incentives at a time when the debate continues regarding the value of spatial audio in music.
Apple has been enhancing its support for spatial audio and specifically Dolby Atmos over the past few years, integrating it into its AirPods, Apple TV 4K, and nearly all of its computing devices. Apple Music has been expanding its collection of tracks available in Dolby Atmos Music, while the Apple TV+ streaming service offers Dolby Atmos soundtracks for almost all its films and shows.
