A transformation is in progress for Gboard users on Android as Google starts rolling out a revamped keyboard layout. This update introduces circular and pill-shaped keys to a select group of beta testers, moving away from the standard rounded rectangle keys. The letter keys will now be circular, while the space bar and other functional keys will take on a pill shape to improve usability and aesthetics.

This redesign is included in the latest Gboard beta (version 15.1), which is currently in its initial phases and has not yet been broadly released to all participants in the testing program.

Recent updates have also been made to the Gboard toolbars, featuring a refined shortcut button for easier access to key functions. The revised Dynamic Color theme has been optimized to better align with Android’s material design principles, offering users a refreshed interface.

These changes aim to revitalize the keyboard's look and enhance user engagement. However, not everyone is pleased with the alterations.

For instance, users on Reddit have expressed that the latest changes are “awful” and “annoying.” One user commented: “The graphic designer in me is just hurt looking at this. Atrocious, atrocious typography.” Similarly, comments on X are almost unanimously negative regarding the new key shapes.

Google has not yet disclosed when these keyboard changes will be accessible to regular Android users or if there will be an option to revert to the previous design.

Gboard on Android was first launched in December 2016, following its introduction on iOS in May 2016.

We know you don’t like AI in Mail. Here’s how to revert to the old look.

The integration of AI into the iPhone was highly anticipated, especially by analysts and investors more than by everyday users. Apple has incorporated AI into all key aspects defining an iPhone, including Mail, Photos, Safari, notifications, and Notes.

However, these changes have not been universally embraced. The redesign of Photos continues to frustrate iPhone users, and the Mail app is not far behind in drawing complaints. On Reddit and various user forums, many are expressing their dissatisfaction with the new categorization system that organizes emails into different classes.

The 2025 Android phone I’m most excited about isn’t from Samsung or Google.

As we approach 2025, it's time for tech enthusiasts like me to look forward to another year of smartphones. Early signs suggest an exciting year for Apple with the iPhone 17, and I’m eager to see its developments.

But what’s happening in the Android smartphone market? The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is on the horizon, yet nothing has truly thrilled me about it so far. The Google Pixel 10 series should be promising, but we haven't heard enough details yet.

Things still aren’t looking good for Apple’s iOS 19 update.

The newest version of iOS 18.2 was rolled out to most iPhone users yesterday, introducing a variety of new features that fans have been eagerly anticipating, such as Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16, Genmoji, and Image Playground. However, the slower rollout of iOS 18 features is affecting development timelines for the next version, indicating that iOS 19 might be delayed.

Rumors of delays have surfaced before, so this isn’t particularly surprising—especially considering Apple's typical production flow. In a Threads post, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman stated: “I continue to hear that the gradual rollout of features across iOS 18 to iOS 18.4 is leading to delays of some features planned for iOS 19. This will result in a longer rollout of features in the next cycle as well. Engineers are still working on iOS 18 projects when they would typically have moved on to the next OS.”
