The PlayStation 5 represents a significant financial commitment, but you can now obtain one without the steep initial expense. PlayStation Direct has introduced a rental program (currently available only in the United Kingdom), allowing individuals to rent a PlayStation 5 starting at just 10.99 GBP — approximately $15. This initiative is a collaboration with Raylo.
There are currently five rental options available. The most affordable is the PlayStation 5 Digital, which begins at 10.99 GBP monthly for a 36-month lease. As the duration of the lease decreases, the monthly price increases, with a no-commitment option available at 21.95 GBP each month, which can be cancelled at any time.
On the other end, the PlayStation 5 Pro console is the priciest choice, starting at 18.95 GBP per month for 36 months and rising to 26.99 GBP monthly for a 12-month lease. If you prefer the lease-free version, it costs 35.59 GBP each month. The positive aspect is that shipping is complimentary and requires no upfront payment, making it easier for those on a tighter budget to access a PlayStation 5 and explore various games without a long-term obligation.
Additionally, you are not required to return the console once the lease period concludes. According to Raylo, you can either upgrade to a different model, continue with the same payment plan, or terminate the agreement by returning the device. Device insurance can also be acquired from 3.99 GBP per month.
The attractiveness of this program (besides the cost benefit) lies in its reduced environmental impact. When someone finishes using a PlayStation 5 and returns it, this allows another individual to borrow it and enjoy gaming without needing to buy a new console. While this initiative could potentially affect overall PlayStation 5 sales, it makes the console more accessible to a broader audience of gamers.
