The new Philips OLED Roku TV takes on LG’s dominance in the OLED market.
Roku
Roku enthusiasts and OLED TV fans have a fresh option available. Roku has collaborated with Philips to introduce the first Philips 4K OLED TV to the U.S. market. The 65-inch Philips OLED Roku TV (officially named 65OLED974/F7) is currently exclusive to Sam's Club and is priced at $1,300, similar to the 65-inch LG B4 OLED TV. Notably, this Sam's Club exclusive also includes a three-year warranty, which is a pleasant addition since most new TVs typically come with only a one-year warranty.
Alongside all the streaming advantages of Roku OS, such as a voice-enabled remote control, the Philips OLED Roku TV features a three-sided borderless display with a 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and a native refresh rate of 120Hz. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG HDR TV formats, and it can detect and adjust to ambient light conditions thanks to Dolby Vision IQ.
The swift refresh rate is further enhanced for gaming through AMD’s FreeSync Premium variable refresh rate (VRR) technology and auto low-latency mode (ALLM). The television is also equipped with Dolby Atmos and includes a built-in 2.1 sound system.
It boasts four HDMI inputs (one supporting HDMI ARC/eARC), two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, and an optical audio output. Wireless connectivity is satisfactory with 802.11ac support, and you can cast to the TV via the Roku app or Apple AirPlay 2 if you possess compatible Apple devices, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Smart home features include integration with Roku Smart Home devices and compatibility with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit; however, it is worth noting that Bluetooth is not included.
Now, the question for budget-conscious OLED TV fans is which 65-inch model is the best choice. Roku’s first OLED offering, the 65-inch Sharp Roku OLED TV, is now priced the same as the Philips model. Roku claims that the Philips version has a newer panel and provides “a number of features that create the ultimate viewing experience,” likely referring to aspects like the built-in 2.1 sound system. Conversely, LG’s 65-inch B4 OLED model features Bluetooth and Nvidia G-Sync, two elements absent in the Roku TV OLEDs.

The optimal way to enjoy free over-the-air (OTA) TV is now available on Apple TV. You can now utilize the fourth-generation Tablo with Apple TV. That's the gist of it. To elaborate, it means you can use the best device for viewing free OTA broadcast channels on what many consider the best streaming hardware on the market.
This fourth-gen Tablo has been available for roughly a year and has performed exceptionally well on major platforms like Roku and Amazon Fire TV. By connecting an antenna to the Tablo, you can launch the app and view — and record — free broadcast channels on multiple devices. Depending on whether you choose the two-channel or four-channel Tablo, you can access this service on up to four devices at the same time. You'll also receive several free, ad-supported channels, as FAST channels will be prevalent in 2024.
We have two new competitors in 2024 vying for the title of best Google TV device available: the Google TV Streamer — which replaces the Chromecast with Google TV — and the Walmart-exclusive Onn 4K Pro. These devices are quite similar, as both operate on the Google TV operating system, resulting in nearly identical functionality.
Apple TV+ may not be one of the earliest streaming services, but since its launch in 2019, it has consistently competed with major players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu. Its focus is on exclusive content, which means you won't find a lineup of familiar shows and movies. Instead, this service has produced remarkable new series such as Ted Lasso, For All Mankind, Silo, and Foundation. Additionally, it offers access to Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer for sports enthusiasts.
With no advertisements, Apple TV+ has established itself as one of the top streaming services and has gathered an estimated 25 million subscribers over the past five years. This estimate exists because the company frequently provides free promotional subscriptions to those who purchase new Apple products, such as an iPhone or MacBook.
