The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Prior to its release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie faced criticism over the selection of Chris Pratt as the voice of the main character. Even after its theatrical debut, critics were still not convinced it was a success. However, The Super Mario Bros. Movie delighted fans and disproved its critics.
The film presented a unique dynamic where Bowser (Jack Black) had a soft side and a genuine affection for Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy). This ultimately led to the memorable Peaches song that children joyfully sang for weeks. The mixed reviews cannot overshadow its impressive box office performance, nor the fact that it set a Guinness World Record as the highest-grossing film based on a video game and became the first video game adaptation to surpass $1 billion in earnings. It’s astonishing to note that despite these remarkable achievements, The Super Mario Bros. Movie only holds a 59% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Severance (2006)
No, we’re not referring to the mind-bending hit series on Apple TV+ that has generated much buzz. Before the Severance series, there was the film Severance, a comedic horror flick with a plot that diverges significantly from the show. It follows a group of co-workers on a work retreat to a secluded forest in Hungary, where they find themselves pursued by hunters intent on killing them. Ironically, these hunters utilize the very products their weapons company produces.
If it seems bizarre, that's because it is. There are some connections to the series it shares its title with, as both reflect on the dullness of monotonous office life while incorporating horror elements in their distinct styles.

50 First Dates (2004)
Look at nearly any Adam Sandler film from the late '90s and early 2000s, and you'll likely find a low critics’ rating. Nonetheless, almost all of them are fondly remembered as among the funniest films of that era. Sandler’s unique comedic style has certainly stood the test of time, evidenced by his long-standing career. While 50 First Dates isn’t his finest work, it is an enjoyable romantic comedy that brings him together again with frequent collaborator Drew Barrymore. Lucy (Barrymore) is an art teacher with amnesia who forgets meeting Henry (Sandler) every time she falls asleep. For Henry, a serial dater, this presents a peculiar challenge as he attempts to win her over day after day. As expected, he begins to develop strong feelings, yearning for Lucy to remember him and the affectionate moments they’ve shared.
The chemistry between the two main actors elevates this film, perhaps not to the same level as The Wedding Singer but enough to deem it a must-watch. Additionally, the stunning Hawaiian scenery adds a visual appeal that may inspire you to start planning your next vacation.
