In 2025, almost every smartphone manufacturer is highlighting the benefits of artificial intelligence. However, aside from Google and its Gemini assistant on Pixel devices, we haven't seen AI firms making a significant hardware move in this area. That is about to change. T-Mobile’s parent company has revealed intentions to create an “AI Phone” in collaboration with Perplexity. This AI firm, which has Nvidia and Jeff Bezos among its backers, plans to provide its namesake AI tool for the device. Similar to how Google integrates Gemini on Pixel phones and Siri operates on iPhones, the forthcoming AI Phone will feature Perplexity at a system-wide level, allowing users to engage with the AI assistant even on the Lock Screen.

Beyond Perplexity, the phone will also provide access to Google Cloud AI, Picsart, and ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs, which recently collaborated with Spotify, has also created its own publishing platform that enables users to produce audiobooks in just a few minutes using free AI tools. Access to PicsArt, Google Cloud, and ElevenLabs will be available through a dedicated Magenta AI app. Google Cloud will offer vision-based AI analysis, ElevenLabs will convert uploaded content into podcasts, and Picsart will assist in generating creative images.
Regarding Perplexity’s functionality on the AI Phone, it will include familiar features such as voice interaction, translations, and query responses using information obtained from the internet.
Notably, the Perplexity integration may also include certain autonomous functionalities. “The AI assistant can handle shopping and compose emails conveniently without the need to switch between applications,” states Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile.
It remains unclear how the AI agent will perform these tasks, but previous examples exist. OpenAI recently launched Operator, a tool that can carry out tasks like booking tickets or ordering food for users. Google’s Gemini utilizes a system of extensions to facilitate chores across different platforms.
Deutsche Telekom has indicated that the Perplexity-driven AI phone will be officially released in the latter half of 2025. According to TechCrunch, the phone will be priced under $1,000 and is expected to be available in 2026.

Apple’s significant AI revamp for Siri may not come until 2027
Apple’s advancements in integrating AI into its hardware have not matched the strides made in computing and wearable technology. While competitors like Google and Microsoft have advanced with deep generative AI tool integration across their software, Siri has lagged behind.
It appears that Siri’s anticipated AI overhaul could extend into 2027, according to Bloomberg. “Individuals involved in Apple’s AI projects say that its foundational and large language models—which underpin its homegrown AI features—are nearing their limits,” the report notes.
Xiaomi’s customizable smartwatch returns, sporting a crown
The Xiaomi Watch S4 has launched with a refreshed design, featuring a crown for enhanced usability. However, the internal specs remain largely unchanged; is that a drawback? We’ve had some hands-on experience with the budget-friendly smartwatch to find out.
Crowning achievement
The Xiaomi Watch S3 utilized two buttons along with the touchscreen for navigation, but for the Watch S4, Xiaomi has introduced a crown located at the two o’clock position with a twist-to-scroll feature. The crown generates a noticeable vibration when turned, and the software responds rapidly, marking a significant upgrade. That said, I don’t recall the Watch S3 being difficult to navigate without it.
Here’s how Honor is competing with Samsung and Apple through its ambitious AI Alpha Plan
Honor has been advancing foldable phone technology with its Magic V2 and Magic V3 in recent years. Its flagship, the Magic 7 Pro, also surpasses the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in various aspects. However, hardware alone doesn’t determine a purchasing decision when selecting a new phone; software is equally important, and Honor seems to be heading in that direction. At MWC 2025, the company unveiled a $10 billion Alpha Plan aimed at elevating it to the same status as Apple and Samsung.
What does the Honor Alpha Plan mean for consumers?
Honor aims to evolve from a smartphone manufacturer into an “AI device ecosystem company.” This indicates that we can anticipate more Honor products—such as wearables, tablets, and laptops—launching globally, with improved cross-device integration than ever before. The company has announced stronger partnerships with Google Cloud and Qualcomm to help “revolutionize human-to-device interaction” through AI. Honor plans to invest $10 billion over the next
