Patrick Schwarzenegger tried out for the role of Superman before securing his part in ‘White Lotus.’

The casting call for James Gunn's new Superman sought a broad range of actors, including many who weren't already established stars. In a recent interview on Happy Sad Confused, Patrick Schwarzenegger, known for his role in White Lotus, shared that he auditioned for the role but admitted he didn’t progress very far in the selection process.
When asked about his experience auditioning for superhero movies, Schwarzenegger mentioned he had only auditioned for the roles of Homelander in The Boys, Golden Boy in Gen V (which he successfully booked), and for James Gunn's Superman. Host Josh Horowitz inquired if he had dressed up for the audition, to which Schwarzenegger responded that he hadn't and that it was conducted via self-tape.
“No, I don’t think I received any feedback. It was more like, ‘No, not for you,’” he explained. David Corenswet eventually secured the role of Superman, while Schwarzenegger went on to join the cast of the third season of The White Lotus, portraying a character who is quite different from Superman.
He also mentioned that since the pandemic, most of his auditions have taken place over Zoom. “It's just one person on the screen, and when they talk, they're on the screen, and then it switches to you when you speak,” he explained. “It makes it quite strange to perform a scene with someone because there are times when they'll be speaking, and you start talking, and it switches to you, which can be distracting and odd.”
The White Lotus currently airs on Sundays on HBO and Max.
