3 must-see Hulu movies to stream this weekend (February 28-March 2)
The Oscars are set for this Sunday, March 2. In celebration of cinema’s equivalent of Super Bowl Sunday, we have highlighted two of our selections from the three must-see Hulu films you should stream this weekend, both of which are Oscar-nominated movies from years past. However, the twist is that neither of these films will be available on Hulu until March 1.
In the meantime, our first recommendation for the week, the well-received drama Ghostlight, is currently available on Hulu. Although it didn’t receive an Oscar nomination, it stands out as one of the best films of 2024.
Looking for more suggestions? We also offer guides to the top movies on Netflix, the finest films on Hulu, the best options on Amazon Prime Video, the greatest titles on Max, and the best selections on Disney+.
**Ghostlight (2024)**
*IFC Films*
Ghostlight largely went unnoticed last year, but among those who viewed it, it was deemed one of the standout indie films of 2024. Keith Kupferer stars as Dan Mueller, a man whose relationships with his daughter, Daisy (Katherine Mallen Kupferer), and wife, Sharon Mueller (Tara Mallen), have suffered since the tragic death of their son, Brian. The family's burden is compounded by Dan’s wrongful death suit against Brian’s girlfriend, Christine Hawthorne (Lia Cubilete).
Unexpectedly, Dan finds solace in the arts and discovers a new eagerness to act alongside a woman named Rita (Dolly de Leon). When both are cast in the lead roles of Romeo & Juliet, he risks jeopardizing his career and family in pursuit of his passion… all while still grappling with the loss of Brian.

**L.A. Confidential (1997)**
*Warner Bros.*
Had Titanic not dominated in 1997, L.A. Confidential would likely have won the Best Picture Oscar it deserved. As one of the finest crime films of the 1990s, this noir masterpiece is set in 1953 Los Angeles, where corruption lurks. Three distinct police detectives—Edmund Exley (Guy Pearce), Wendell “Bud” White (Russell Crowe), and Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey)—each possess a piece of the larger mystery, but they initially fail to connect the dots.
Their task is made more complicated by the animosity between Exley and White, as well as the fact that Ed had a brief affair with Bud’s girlfriend, Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger), unbeknownst to Bud. As murder, extortion, and other crimes begin to draw the detectives together, they are oblivious to the fact that the true threat to the city—and to themselves—has already infiltrated their lives.

**Sideways (2004)**
*Searchlight Pictures*
To wrap up the weekend, it’s the perfect time to go Sideways with a comedy-drama that includes elements of romance. Paul Giamatti plays Miles Raymond, a schoolteacher and aspiring writer who goes on a pre-wedding road trip through California’s wine country with his friend, Jack Cole (Thomas Haden Church).
Miles seeks only to unwind with his friend and escape his own issues, while Jack is eager to meet a woman named Stephanie (Sandra Oh from Killing Eve). Miles also catches the eye of a waitress, Maya Randall (Virginia Madsen). However, Jack’s deceit and infidelity towards his fiancée could have repercussions for both men.
