Pokémon Champions: all the information we have up to this point.
Pokémon Day consistently brings exciting announcements and updates for fans of the beloved monster-catching series. We received significant news regarding Pokémon Legends: Z-A, along with the unveiling of a new game for the Switch. Pokémon Champions is centered exclusively on the excitement of battling with your monsters in intense competitions, reminiscent of the classic Pokémon Stadium games. Although details about this upcoming game are limited at the moment, we do not yet know if it will be released before Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Here’s the information we have about Pokémon Champions so far.
It’s not surprising that Pokémon Champions will not be launching on PS5, Xbox Series X, or PC, but there are numerous titles for those platforms to anticipate.
Release Speculation
Game Freak
Pokémon Champions was announced without a specified release window and is currently listed as being in development. We caught glimpses of gameplay, and since this is not a mainline installment, it shouldn't take too long for the game to be released. If we had to estimate, we speculate this game might launch in 2025 or early 2026.
Platforms
Game Freak
Pokémon Champions is confirmed for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, featuring full cross-platform compatibility. There was no mention of a potential Switch 2 version, but it is likely that it will be backwards compatible with any new hardware.
Trailers
Pokémon Champions! | Announcement Trailer
The announcement trailer made a surprise appearance during the Pokémon Day live stream in February 2025. It showcases the evolution of Pokémon battles through the years, starting with kids battling on their Game Boys using link cables, leading up to modern-day players competing online with their phones or Switch consoles.
Given its focus on battles, we do not anticipate a substantial story or much single-player content in this game.
Gameplay

The glimpse we received included brief teasers of what Pokémon Champions' gameplay may involve. It features two trainers ready to battle, each accompanied by two monsters. This could suggest that battles are restricted to teams of two, or that duo battles will be an option.
We understand that types, abilities, and moves will all return from the core series, indicating it will remain a turn-based game.
A notable feature is the ability to import Pokémon from Pokémon Home. However, it does note that not all Pokémon will be compatible, likely because Pokémon Champions might not include the entire roster. Nevertheless, it seems you'll be able to transfer your favorite monster from Home into Pokémon Champions.
Preorder
With no release window currently available, there are no preorder options for Pokémon Champions. However, it may potentially be a free-to-play game like Pokémon Unite. We will provide updates with all the details as they become available.
