All the announcements made at Pokémon Presents 2025
Today is February 27, which marks Pokémon Day. To commemorate the launch of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan, The Pokémon Company organizes a special live stream each year on this date. This always generates excitement, but this year's Pokémon Presents showcase was particularly fascinating with the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon.
Although we didn’t see the new console during the stream, we did receive a hint about two games likely heading to the system. Pokémon Legends: Z-A received a new trailer indicating a release in late 2025, suggesting it may launch alongside the Switch 2. Additionally, we learned that Pokémon Champions is also in development, likely planned for Nintendo's new console. Furthermore, updates were provided for the usual array of Pokémon mobile games like Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket and Pokémon Go. If you missed the event, here’s a complete recap of the announcements.
**Pokémon Champions is a new Stadium game**
Pokémon Champions! | Announcement Trailer
The Pokémon Stadium series is making a comeback. Pokémon Champions is a new competitive game currently in development for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices. It appears to be headed for the Nintendo Switch 2 as well, as it’s set to launch on “the Nintendo Switch family of consoles.” The development is being carried out by The Pokémon Works. The game will be compatible with Pokémon Home, enabling players to transfer creatures from throughout the series. While we only saw a brief preview during the presentation, it featured some familiar arena battles reminiscent of the classic Nintendo 64 games.
**Pokémon Legends: Z-A makes its grand debut**
An Extended Look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A!
The Pokémon Company finally revealed Pokémon Legends: Z-A to conclude the showcase. We were treated to glimpses of its gameplay, which takes inspiration from Pokémon Legends: Arceus and situates it within Lumiose City. Clips showcased a trainer battling on the streets alongside companions like Lucario and capturing Pokémon in an open environment. After the trailer, we received a comprehensive overview of its story, characters, and gameplay. Wild Zones are scattered throughout the city, explaining why trainers can catch Pokémon there. The battle system has undergone a complete overhaul, incorporating real-time elements. Mega evolutions are also returning for Z-A.
The only detail missing was a specific release date. The game is currently expected to launch in late 2025, leading to speculation that it could debut on the Nintendo Switch 2.
