Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault: release timeline, trailers, gameplay details, and additional information.
Standing out among indie games can be challenging, but in 2018, a small roguelike called Moonlighter achieved just that. Not only did it evoke some nostalgia for 2D Zelda games, but it also combined dungeon exploration with shop management, requiring players to price, sell, and manage their inventory between dungeon runs to gather treasures for sale. Similar to Ninja Gaiden 4 and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, we were unaware of a sequel in development until the announcement of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. Now that it has been revealed, it is among our most eagerly anticipated upcoming video games. Let’s equip our large backpacks and delve into the dungeon to uncover any tidbits of information about Moonlighter 2.

Trailers
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault | Announcement Trailer
The game was announced with a brief trailer towards the end of 2024. A significant change is that it has shifted from a 2D pixel art style to a 3D isometric format. Players will once again take control of Will and the villagers from the original game, who find themselves stranded in a new dimension. Your new hub will be the village of Tresna, which requires restoration and upgrades as you seek a way back home. The dungeons will feature various vaults filled with loot and monsters.
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault | A New Journey Unfolds
Another short teaser was presented during the ID@Xbox showcase in February 2025. This trailer provided a glimpse of new villagers to interact with but primarily showcased the combat. While the story was present in Moonlighter, it wasn’t the main focus, so we believe the sequel will also emphasize gameplay mechanics.
Gameplay
11 bit Studios
We've already noted the transition to a 3D art style in Moonlighter 2, but the gameplay loop seems to remain largely unchanged. You will continue to spend your days managing your shop, negotiating with customers, and using your earnings to upgrade the town. At night, you will venture into the vaults to battle enemies, gather loot, and organize your relics within your bag for optimal efficiency. The deeper you explore a vault, the more valuable the loot becomes, though the enemies also grow more formidable.
New features include additional weapons, upgrade options, and a wider variety of enemies and environments. You will have the opportunity to decorate your shop to attract more customers. Verticality will be a factor in gameplay, but movement and dodging will likely be your primary strategies.
Preorder
With no release date available, there are currently no preorder options for Moonlighter 2. However, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam, and it has been confirmed as a day-one title on Game Pass, allowing subscribers to play at release without any extra cost.
