The competition to innovate in the smartphone market has taken a significant shift. Initially, we saw the emergence of book-style foldable phones, followed by Samsung's introduction of flip-style foldable devices, which inspired other competitors. A few years later, Huawei made headlines with its tri-fold device.

Recently, the Chinese electronics powerhouse began its foray into international markets with the launch of its triple-folding Mate XT smartphone. It appears that Samsung is also set to unveil its own tri-fold smartphone in the coming months.

According to an ET News report, Samsung's new foldable design will debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Mass production of components for the phone is expected to commence in April, concurrently with the two popular foldable models.

Samsung's tri-fold phone is reportedly inspired by the Galaxy Flex G. Unlike Huawei's Mate XT, which features a single flexible panel that folds both inwards and outwards, Samsung’s version will only fold inwards from both sides.

Anticipated to launch in July, the Samsung device will include a secondary non-flexible display on the exterior. The inward-folding design was chosen for durability reasons; the exposed curved edge of the Huawei Mate XT can easily be damaged.

The internal double-folding display is speculated to be approximately ten inches in size, while the external display will be a standard 6.49 inches, matching the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Notably, it will lack a digitizer, so pen input will not be available; however, Samsung might incorporate the newer EMR stylus technology.

Samsung is reportedly planning to produce around 200,000 units of its tri-fold phone, which will be available in a limited number of markets. This strategy aims to assess consumer response before considering a larger scale production.

While the concept itself is ambitious, a recent leak suggests that the internal hardware is also quite impressive. According to leaker PandaFlashPro, Samsung is currently testing a prototype equipped with three rear cameras.

The main camera in this tri-lens setup is said to utilize an impressive 200-megapixel sensor, akin to what is found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. A 12-megapixel sensor will manage ultra-wide shots, while a 10-megapixel lens will handle telephoto zoom pictures.

It is important to note that this information pertains to a prototype stage, indicating that Samsung may adjust specifications before the final production version is released.
