Marvel and Sony have announced a new release date for Spider-Man 4.

      Sony

Last autumn, Marvel Studios and Sony announced that Spider-Man 4 is set to be released in the summer of 2026. However, there has been a slight alteration to the schedule. The previous release date of July 24, 2026, has now been moved to Friday, July 31, 2026.

No official explanation for this change was provided, but The Hollywood Reporter indicated that the rescheduling allows Spider-Man 4 some extra time before the release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is scheduled for July 17, 2026. Tom Holland is set to appear in both films, though the specifics of his role in Nolan's film have not yet been disclosed. Holland has portrayed Spider-Man in the MCU since Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and has also starred in a highly successful trilogy of Spider-Man movies.

In October 2024, Holland mentioned that he would start filming the next Spider-Man movie in the summer of 2025. Before that, he praised the script for the upcoming sequel, stating it "really lit a fire in me." His co-star and real-life partner, Zendaya, is also expected to return, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The cinematic rights for Spider-Man are held by Sony Pictures, which has collaborated with Marvel Studios on the last three installments through a unique agreement. According to the renewal that permitted the production of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel has the right to feature Holland’s Spider-Man in another film of its choosing. While the studio has yet to utilize that option, it is highly anticipated that Holland will don the Spider-Man suit again for either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, if not both.

Is Venom going to be in Spider-Man 4? Sony may have hinted at a significant clue.

Spider-Man 4 is officially in the works. Tom Holland will return to reprise his role as Peter Parker in this fourth solo film. Fans are now eager to learn about the storyline, speculating on what the next chapter in the Spider-Man universe will entail. One of the most exciting rumors for Spider-Man 4 involves a crossover with Venom. Sony Pictures Japan may have inadvertently revealed plans for Holland to interact with Tom Hardy's Venom.

A press release from Sony that announced the release date for Spider-Man 4 included some intriguing details about Venom. The statement declared: "Tom Holland, who portrays Peter, has already given his stamp of approval to the story! 'This will be a real movie that fans can respect!' Is Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie in the 'Venom' series, prepared to participate?"

Comic book fans have long speculated about when Miles Morales might make his live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming fueled these discussions by not only kicking off Sony Pictures' ongoing partnership with Marvel Studios but also briefly mentioning Miles' canonical uncle, Aaron Davis (Donald Glover), who notes he has a nephew he's concerned about in the film.

Since then, Marvel hasn't done much to pave the way for a potential role for Miles in the MCU. However, his popularity has soared, largely due to his prominent role in Insomniac Games' Spider-Man video games as well as the critically acclaimed animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Now, after seven years of anticipation, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has given fans a vague idea of when Miles might make his MCU debut.

Many consider Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be a low point for the franchise. Following the peak of the MCU with Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios seems to have struggled under the weight of its ambition, attempting to cater to audiences while producing a vast amount of content in a limited timeframe.

Despite this, the MCU has still produced notable entries like Shang-Chi and Spider-Man: No Way Home, showcasing potential with its ongoing Multiverse Saga. While the franchise continues to find its footing, it’s important to acknowledge its strengths by examining the best and worst films from Phase Four.
