Kwikset introduces two new smart locks featuring Z-Wave compatibility.

Kwikset, a producer of both traditional and smart locks, has announced the launch of the HomeConnect 918 and the HomeConnect 620 — two smart locks that are entirely compatible with Z-Wave technology. This feature allows for installation of the locks at a distance from the hub, due to its support for long-range connections.
The HomeConnect 918 is particularly noteworthy, enabling the storage of up to 250 user codes and featuring a stylish touchscreen design. While most families likely only require a few codes, the ability to save hundreds is beneficial if the lock is used for rental properties or at the main entrance of a small business. It also offers high security through S2 security encryption, which prevents unauthorized access.
“These new products demonstrate Kwikset’s commitment to keeping our smart locks at the forefront of technology,” said Josh Hodgson, product marketing manager at Kwikset. “With the addition of Z-Wave Long Range and improved lock performance, we are ensuring that homeowners and professionals can depend on our products for seamless connectivity, strong security, and unparalleled convenience.”
Kwikset already has a HomeConnect 620 model, but this updated version includes Z-Wave for enhanced long-range functionality. Similar to the HomeConnect 918, it supports 250 user codes and is equipped with S2 security encryption.
The key distinction lies in the keypad design — the HomeConnect 918 utilizes a touchscreen, while the 620 is equipped with physical buttons. Both models are aesthetically pleasing, although most consumers may favor the sleek touchscreen interface found on the HomeConnect 918.
A standout feature present on both smart locks is SmartKey Security, which guards against advanced breaching techniques and allows for quick rekeying of the lock. Thus, if a key is lost, you can rekey the lock swiftly without needing to replace the entire unit.
Both the HomeConnect 918 and HomeConnect 620 Z-Wave will be available at all retailers currently selling Kwikset products. The HomeConnect 918 has a price tag of $199, while the HomeConnect 620 Z-Wave is priced at $149. For further information, visit the official Kwikset website. SimpliSafe introduces an AI-driven detection system alongside the new Outdoor Security Camera Series 2.
After a period in early access, SimpliSafe’s Active Guard Outdoor Protection feature is now publicly available. Utilizing AI technology alongside its team of security experts, Active Guard Outdoor Protection is designed to detect and prevent crime before it occurs. This feature is part of the new Outdoor Security Camera Series 2, but full functionality requires a monthly membership.
SimpliSafe is not new to the realm of AI-driven crime deterrence, as a similar feature is already present in the Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Camera. While that functionality is effective, it implies that if an indoor camera detects intruders, they have already entered your home. The Outdoor Security Camera Series 2 and Active Guard Outdoor Protection aim to remedy that situation by enabling the system to respond to threats and notify SimpliSafe agents within 30 seconds of detecting motion.
The new Arlo Wired Floodlight Camera records in 2K resolution and supports professional monitoring.
The Wired Floodlight Camera marks the latest addition to Arlo’s smart home security lineup. It enhances the existing Arlo Pro 3 Wireless Floodlight Camera, maintaining many of the same features but with a new wired design that ensures continuous power — eliminating the risk of missing motion events due to dead batteries.
Unlike some cameras that provide only 1080p video quality, the Arlo Wired Floodlight Camera captures footage in 2K. The improved resolution makes it easier to discern details in motion events and enables higher clarity when zooming in. With HDR and color night vision, you can expect clear images at any time of day. Additionally,
