Poco began by offering phones that provided flagship-level performance at more affordable prices. The newly unveiled Poco F9 Ultra and F9 Pro illustrate how much this approach has evolved, as both models now firmly reside in the premium segment.
Poco has introduced these devices for global markets, including Europe, but neither will officially be available in the U.S. This is unfortunate, particularly because the F9 Ultra features hardware that stands out even among high-end Android flagships.
The Poco F9 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, whereas the F9 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series. Both models combine their processors with an additional VisionBoost D8 chip that manages features like AI Super Resolution and frame interpolation, allowing compatible games to achieve up to 185fps.
The F9 Ultra boasts a massive battery and comes with a built-in subwoofer.
The F9 Ultra features a 6.9-inch 185Hz AMOLED display, while the F9 Pro has a slightly smaller 6.59-inch display, without compromising on the refresh rate. Both utilize Poco’s HyperRGB panel technology and are capable of reaching a claimed peak brightness of 4,500 nits across broader screen areas.
The company has also injected some character into the design. The F9 Ultra includes a dynamic light on its rear for notifications, incoming calls, gaming, and music. The Aurora Green F9 Pro features a full-panel luminous back that glows after being exposed to light.
Where the Ultra truly excels is in battery capacity. It carries an 8,050mAh silicon-carbon battery, making it the largest battery ever used in a Poco F-series phone, while the Pro is equipped with a substantial 6,330mAh battery. Both devices support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Poco has maintained its collaboration with Bose as well. The F9 Ultra takes it a step further with an independent subwoofer in addition to its stereo speakers, forming a 2.1-channel audio system. The Pro is equipped with Bose-tuned symmetrical stereo speakers instead.
Poco is also becoming more serious about camera capabilities.
Both phones feature Poco’s first 200MP main camera with OIS, reportedly using a 1/1.56-inch sensor, along with a 32MP selfie camera. The F9 Ultra includes a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto lens with a 1/2.75-inch sensor as well as a 50MP ultrawide camera with a 1/2.88-inch sensor. In contrast, the F9 Pro has a 50MP 2.5x floating telephoto lens, also reportedly measuring 1/2.75 inches, which can focus on subjects as close as 10cm, and an 8MP ultrawide camera.
In Europe, pricing begins at €899.9 for the F9 Pro, with an introductory price of €739.9. The F9 Ultra is priced starting at €1,099.9, dropping to €829.9 during the early-bird period. Higher storage options include 512GB for the Pro and 1TB for the Ultra.
The downside for U.S. consumers is that Poco still does not officially offer its flagship phones in the country. Consequently, anyone interested in the F9 Ultra’s 8,050mAh battery, 5x camera, or built-in subwoofer would need to face the challenge of importing one.
