During Gamescom 2026, the company showcased its 27-inch Odyssey G6, which boasts a refresh rate that can reach 1,100Hz—slightly exceeding the previously announced 1,040Hz for the same model, though Samsung has not clarified the reason for this change.
As expected, there is a drawback. The G6 can only achieve this four-digit refresh rate at HD resolution. When set to its native QHD resolution, the monitor maxes out at 600Hz.
Competitive FPS players can easily grasp this compromise. For others, the 600Hz QHD mode may seem far more attractive compared to sacrificing image clarity for a higher number.
How Samsung achieves 1,100Hz
The Odyssey G6 is constructed with a 27-inch QHD Fast IPS panel, with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a maximum refresh rate of 600Hz at that resolution.
Samsung's Dual Mode allows for a higher refresh rate by switching the monitor to HD, raising the limit to 1,100Hz and making the G6 a specialized display for those prioritizing speed over resolution.
This also makes the 600Hz capability seem more reasonable in comparison, even though ultra-high refresh rates can provide significant benefits in competitive gaming.
Who would use 1,100Hz?
Samsung intends the faster mode for competitive FPS players, where motion clarity and quick response times are often deemed more important than a higher resolution.
With a 1ms response time, the appeal for esports extends beyond just the impressive refresh rate. Nevertheless, the 1,100Hz mode seems tailored for a specific audience, while the QHD at 600Hz offers a more practical choice for a broader range of users.

For the majority of potential buyers, a more pertinent question might be whether they would ever switch away from QHD after witnessing what a four-digit refresh rate looks like in the menu.
