Amazon's Echo, Kindle, and Fire TV have recently experienced significant price increases.
Rising memory expenses are making Amazon's everyday devices pricier
The ongoing memory crisis has already affected prices across smartphones, laptops, consoles, and cameras, and it is now beginning to impact smaller everyday devices. Amazon has increased the prices for multiple Echo, Kindle, Fire TV, and Eero products, with reports from Fortune indicating that the company attributes these hikes to the rising costs of memory and storage components.
Some of the price increases are quite significant. The Echo Dot, which used to be priced at $49.99, now costs $79.99, marking a 60% hike for a device that was intended to be one of the most affordable options in Amazon's smart home range.
Additionally, Amazon’s streaming devices are also affected. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max has risen from $59.99 to $84.99, while the less expensive Fire TV Stick HD now costs $39.99, up from $34.99. The 16GB Kindle has increased from $109.99 to $149.99, and the Kindle Paperwhite is now $199.99, up by $40. Home networking devices are also impacted, with the Eero Pro 7 increasing by $100 to $799.99.
Amazon has verified these price increases, stating that the consumer electronics sector is experiencing "significant increases in memory and storage component costs." The company mentioned that it had delayed passing these costs onto customers for as long as possible.
The RAM crisis extends well beyond PCs and smartphones
Most of the effects of rising memory prices have been most apparent in products where RAM and storage form a substantial part of the hardware cost. However, smart speakers, streaming devices, e-readers, and Wi-Fi systems also rely on memory and storage for their operations.
For several months, analysts and industry leaders have warned that soaring memory prices would ultimately affect the broader consumer electronics market beyond just smartphones, computers, and consoles. We are beginning to see these warnings materialize, as evidenced by Amazon’s recent price increases illustrating the extent to which the memory shortage has begun to influence the market.

Nothing's new CMF earbuds provide noise cancellation at a budget comparable to Apple’s wired EarPods
While CMF abandoned plans for another budget smartphone this year due to the ongoing memory crisis affecting component prices, the Nothing sub-brand has succeeded in finding a way to offer cheaper options elsewhere. They have introduced the Buds Neo, their most affordable wireless earbuds to date, which are priced surprisingly close to Apple’s wired EarPods. The CMF Buds Neo launch in India at ₹1,999 (~$21). By comparison, Apple continues to sell its USB-C EarPods for $19 in the U.S. CMF is offering fully wireless earbuds in a similar price range, featuring active noise cancellation, spatial audio, app controls, and a charging case.
