While gaming monitors have boasted impressive refresh rates for years, laptop screens have largely remained unchanged. At IMID 2026 in Busan, Samsung Display introduced a 16-inch OLED panel designed for laptops that achieves a remarkable 300Hz refresh rate.
Why is a 300Hz refresh rate important for laptops?
According to Samsung, this marks the first instance of a self-emissive laptop display reaching 300Hz, which is significant for users who do more than just handle emails and spreadsheets. Higher refresh rates lead to smoother visuals, whether you’re browsing the web, editing videos, or gaming on the move.

Previously, a powerful gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU was necessary to fully utilize a fast panel. This new panel is aimed at gamers, but Samsung’s inclusion of it in a slim 2.5K OLED format suggests that enhanced smoothness could also benefit thinner, lighter laptops.

The 16-inch panel was not the only highlight at the event. Samsung also unveiled a 31.5-inch QD-OLED monitor that pairs 4K resolution with a 360Hz refresh rate, a combination that no monitor has achieved simultaneously before.

Additionally, the company presented a 34-inch QD-OLED gaming monitor featuring a 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio, also with a 360Hz refresh rate. All three displays were featured in the Winning Game Arena, aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of its OLED technology across various screen sizes for gamers and creators.
While Samsung hasn’t specified when this 16-inch panel will become available in consumer laptops, its existence suggests that laptop manufacturers might begin to promote refresh rates similarly to gaming monitor brands.
