Terra Industries secures $52 million in seed funding and establishes its inaugural office outside of Africa.

Terra Industries has secured an additional $18 million to finalize a $52 million seed round and is set to establish its first office outside of Africa in London, while manufacturing operations will remain in Ghana and Nigeria. Founded in 2024, the Nigerian company anticipates exceeding $100 million in contract bookings by the end of this year.

The founder is clear about the purpose of the new office. Chief Executive Nathan Nwachuku stated that the funding "enables us to expand that work and strengthen our manufacturing foundation," and "also positions us within the circles where global defense decisions are made."

The company is just two years old; it was established in 2024 by Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, emerging from stealth mode in January with an $11.75 million investment led by 8VC, founded by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, followed by a $22 million extension led by Lux Capital in February.

Securing three funding rounds within eight months is remarkable for any seed-stage company. Nwachuku mentioned that the February round valued Terra in the nine-figure range.

The company's commercial expectations are even higher, as it claims to be on track for over $100 million in contract bookings this year, with revenue in the eight figures, compared to about $2.5 million previously, mainly from industrial site security.

The product is hardware with a subscription component. Autonomous drones, interceptor drones, sentry towers, and unmanned ground vehicles operate using ArtemisOS, Terra’s proprietary software. Customers purchase the equipment and then pay ongoing fees for monitoring and data processing.

Sovereignty is the central theme. The systems are designed to withstand African conditions—heat, dust, and intermittent communications—while being manufactured on the continent, ensuring that data remains local rather than being routed through foreign suppliers.

The manufacturing aspect is where the promise will be assessed. A 34,000-square-foot facility in Ghana, more than double the size of the Abuja location, is expected to open in the fourth quarter and aims to produce 50,000 units annually by 2028, aligning with a trend in Europe, where Berlin’s Stark raised €500 million primarily to enhance production capacity.

The disparity in scale is significant. Terra’s total seed funding is $52 million, compared to the $18 billion valuation of Helsing in Europe and the billions raised by Anduril and Shield AI in the U.S.

This makes the choice of London noteworthy. With Germany accounting for 90% of Europe’s defense tech funding, Terra is not seeking financial support; instead, it is aiming to engage with institutions.
