The inaugural season includes 20 unique city-based teams, such as New York Nythrix, Paris Luxe, Berlin Steel, and Tokyo Neon, each boasting complete rosters of AI-generated athletes. The opening game features London Veldrith versus New York Nythrix, timed strategically after the World Cup when traditional football takes a break. LegaBot remains active.
The league operates using thousands of specialized AI agents that work simultaneously. Some agents are responsible for player movements and strategies, while others manage match events, commentary, media coverage, and transfer market activities. Each of the over 500 players has a “Digital DNA” that influences their playing style, personality, and career path. Players will form their skills, develop rivalries, and engage in transfers throughout a continuous season. “Not even the AI in charge knows the outcome,” said founder Tal Melenboim, emphasizing a shift in what it means to be a fan.
On launch day, fans can access live match data, statistics, video highlights, and images, with full live video broadcasts set to begin later this month. The first season will be available for free on lega.bot. Google has showcased AI capabilities by reconstructing a Pelé goal that was never filmed, indicating that AI-created sports content can resonate culturally when it serves a purpose. LegaBot aims to explore if AI can create not just moments, but a sustained sports universe that engages audiences.
