DJI has released the Osmo Pocket 4P globally after initially restricting its launch to China, now making it available in the UK, Europe, Canada, and Australia, while the US market still lacks access.
The Standard Combo starts at £529 or €599 and includes the camera, a fill light, a carrying pouch, and a handle with a tripod thread. In Canada, the same bundle is listed at US$619, as prices are shown in US dollars. The Vlog Combo is priced at £605, €689, or US$669 in Canada, featuring a Mic Mini 2, Mini Tripod, a larger carrying bag, and the Osmo FrameTap remote.
Significant Upgrade with Second Camera
The Osmo Pocket 4P features a primary 1-inch sensor coupled with a 20mm equivalent f/2.0 lens, and it supports up to 17 stops of dynamic range with DJI’s new 10-bit D-Log 2 profile, providing creators with more flexibility in adjusting highlights, shadows, and colors during editing.
A noteworthy enhancement is the inclusion of a second 1/1.28-inch sensor paired with a 60mm equivalent f/1.8 telephoto lens, enabling 3x optical zoom and allowing creators more options for framing portraits, products, and distant subjects without solely relying on digital cropping. The wide camera can record slow-motion video at up to 4K/240 fps, while the telephoto lens reaches 4K/200 fps. The device features a 2-inch OLED screen with 1,000 nits of brightness and promises up to 210 minutes of battery life.
Why No US Release Yet?
DJI has yet to announce pricing or a release date for the Pocket 4P in the US. The company's recent product launches have encountered challenges as the FCC continues to impose tighter restrictions on DJI and foreign technology. Older models, like the Osmo Pocket 3, remain available because they were authorized before these new regulations took effect.
Additionally, the government has broadened its Covered List protocol to encompass foreign-manufactured robots, affecting future products such as robot vacuums and Roombas. As a result, US creators are left seeing the Pocket 4P available in many locations but unable to purchase it officially at home.
