      Samsung's upcoming smartwatches appear to have some significant upgrades in the works. Recently leaked promotional images indicate that the smaller Galaxy Watch 9 is set to feature a much larger battery than initially reported, while the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 might finally obtain certification for recreational diving.

      The images, shared by an X account under the handle @evleaks, are believed to be official Samsung marketing materials, although prominent leaker Evan Blass has clarified that this account is not his. The images present details that were not included in earlier specification leaks.

      The smaller Galaxy Watch 9 is getting a battery upgrade

      Earlier reports suggested that the 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 would keep the same 325mAh battery as its predecessor. However, one of the newly leaked images lists a 390mAh capacity, representing a 20% increase.

      The 44mm version is shown with a 445mAh battery, consistent with earlier reports this month. Both models are also rumored to incorporate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, which is expected to enhance efficiency along with providing improved CPU and graphics performance. The larger battery was one of the few notable updates seemingly absent from the smaller model, making the revised specifications of the Watch 9 lineup significantly more attractive.

      The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could finally be diving-ready

      The more surprising update involves the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. One of the images hints at EN13319 certification, which is an international standard for diving equipment and depth-measuring devices.

      Previous Galaxy Watch Ultra versions did not have EN13319 certification, and Samsung specifically warned against using them for freediving or scuba diving. The Ultra 2 appears to rectify that shortcoming, making it more competitive with other adventure watches designed for underwater activities, particularly in comparison to the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

      This certification adds to several enhancements already hinted at in prior marketing images. Reports suggest that the watch will feature an 800mAh battery, an upgrade from the previous 590mAh, while managing to make the case 12% thinner. It is expected to maintain its titanium body while achieving an IP69K rating and a display that can reach 5,000 nits. Samsung has yet to confirm these specifics, with official details anticipated during Galaxy Unpacked on July 22.
