The Honor Wild Robot Phone might possess flagship specifications that support its gimmicky nature.
The Honor Robot Phone is rumored to feature not just one but two 200MP cameras.
Since its debut, Honor’s Robot Phone has captivated attention with its unconventional and experimental design. It includes a camera that resembles and functions like a gimbal, emerging from the back and tracking individuals.
Recent leaks indicate that the device may offer more than just this unique camera feature. Honor is potentially developing an innovative flagship model around this technology. According to the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the Robot Phone might utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a flat 1.5K display ranging from 6.3 to 6.4 inches, and a battery capacity of approximately 6,000mAh. Honor has not yet verified these specifications, so they should be regarded as rumors for now.
Featuring two 200MP cameras
Honor has stated that the robotic arm of the device holds a 200MP sensor within what it claims is the smallest 4DoF gimbal system in the industry. This setup provides three-axis stabilization, along with AI-driven subject tracking, as well as options for 90-degree and 180-degree rotation shots, and autonomous movements during video calls and AI interactions.
The recent leak further suggests the addition of a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a second 200MP sensor paired with a periscope telephoto lens. This enhancement significantly expands the photographic capabilities of the Robot Phone beyond what the primary moving camera would imply. Digital Chat Station anticipates that the overall performance of the camera will be comparable to Honor’s upcoming Magic 9 flagship series. Additionally, the company has revealed a technical partnership with ARRI, a professional cinema-camera manufacturer, which will bring elements of ARRI’s imaging expertise to the Robot Phone.
Addressing a genuine issue with its unique design
A camera that can physically track its subject offers more than just visual entertainment. Content creators can record themselves, maintain adequate framing during video calls, capture smoother footage while walking, and execute rotating shots that currently necessitate an external gimbal.
It remains uncertain whether Honor will release this smartphone outside of China and how robust the gimbal-like mechanism will be. The latest leak suggests a launch in China could occur in August.
