      Tesla has rolled out the Model Y Long Wheelbase in the United States and Puerto Rico. This extended six-seat variant of the world's best-selling electric vehicle features a third row and represents the most significant expansion of the Model Y since its redesign earlier this year. The Launch Series begins at $61,990 and comes with 12 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), 12 months of free Supercharging, and options for any exterior paint color, interior configuration, or wheel choice at no extra cost. Production is already in progress at Giga Texas in Austin, with initial customer deliveries anticipated in September.

      The most notable updates are within the cabin. The second row replaces the standard bench with heated and ventilated captain's chairs that have powered armrests, while the third row features heated reclining seats with one-touch folding and child-seat anchors. Tesla claims the interior provides 89 cubic feet of cargo space, which accommodates luggage even with all six seats in use.

      This model is seven inches longer than the standard Model Y, and Tesla has added a larger rear tailgate and bigger windows to enhance visibility for passengers in all rows. Performance specs include an estimated range of 325 miles and a zero-to-sixty time of less than four and a half seconds, combined with adaptive damping, staggered tires, enhanced acoustic glass, and updated suspension. An upgraded airflow system is designed to maintain comfort in the three-row cabin during longer journeys.

      The tech package includes a 16-inch touchscreen in the front, an eight-inch display for second-row passengers, a 19-speaker audio system, and 50-watt wireless charging pads with active cooling. Tesla has also integrated its Grok AI assistant into the vehicle along with the included FSD system. After the one-year Full Self-Driving period ends, the subscription fee is $99 per month.

      This launch comes amid increasing competition in the electric SUV market. Rivian began delivering its R2 SUV last month, priced around $58,000, while Xiaomi's YU7 is offering more range and features in China at a significantly lower cost than the standard Model Y. At nearly $62,000, the Long Wheelbase is banking on the appeal of a six-seat configuration, bundled autonomy software, and the Supercharger network to retain its premium in a rapidly growing market.
