PS Plus includes Modern Warfare III in July, along with two other games that are definitely worth playing.
The unremarkable Call of Duty campaign is accompanied by remastered multiplayer maps, along with For the King II and CrossCode.

PlayStation Plus subscribers are set to receive a new selection starting July 7, featuring one of the most prominent titles Sony has offered in the Monthly Games in some time. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III leads this month's offerings, alongside the cooperative fantasy RPG For the King II and the retro-style action RPG CrossCode. All three games will be accessible on PS5 and PS4 and will remain available until August 3.
A blockbuster with a tumultuous launch
Modern Warfare III did not receive a warm welcome upon release. In our review, we described the campaign as unremarkable, with a four-hour storyline that struggled to stand up against previous installments in the trilogy. The Cross-Gen Bundle available on PS Plus includes this campaign as well as a set of remastered multiplayer maps from the 2009 original and Modern Warfare Zombies, an open-world mode allowing teams to cooperate.
Call of Duty
With the game available for free with a subscription, there’s no real expense in trying out the entire package and forming your own opinion about the campaign. Even if the story doesn’t appeal to you, the multiplayer aspect alone makes it worth adding to your collection. The maps come with a legacy of goodwill spanning two decades, and Zombies offers an extra incentive to continue playing after the main story concludes.
Two lesser-known games provide the real appeal
The remainder of July’s offerings leans towards more thoughtful, personal gameplay experiences. For the King II is a four-player cooperative RPG that merges roguelite mechanics with tabletop-style strategy, serving as a sequel to a game that garnered a dedicated fan base due to its genre-blending approach. Expect a combination of turn-based battles, resource management, and unpredictable gameplay sessions that reward teamwork.
Curve Digital
CrossCode combines 16-bit aesthetics with real-time combat and dungeon challenges, resembling an old-school action-adventure more than a modern RPG. Its sci-fi narrative and engaging platforming have earned it a devoted following since its inception, and this serves as a great opportunity to experience it if you missed the initial release.
Radical Fish Games
Sony has maintained the Monthly Games tier even as it has increased prices for shorter subscription plans earlier this year. Whether this adjustment feels justified may depend on which of these three titles you would actually consider purchasing at full price.

Sony is facilitating the decline of physical games, leaving preservation efforts to address the aftermath
A rumored cutoff for PS5 discs in 2028 poses a deadline for the industry that still appears unprepared.
Sony’s alleged decision to cease the production of PS5 discs in 2028 would push the PlayStation further into a digital-first paradigm, where access relies on licenses, storefront policies, and platform support that typically doesn't last as long as companies guarantee.
This presents a neat solution for Sony but complicates preservation efforts. While physical media was never a flawless archive, eliminating it before a viable alternative emerges transforms the survival of older games into an external crisis. It also prompts concerns regarding long-term ownership, resale rights, and whether players can truly count on their purchases being accessible decades down the line.

Cinder City requires 64GB of RAM, and its additional PC specifications are even more peculiar
Remember when 16GB of RAM was sufficient?
For years, PC gamers have jokingly remarked that game developers view hardware requirements like a shopping list. Cinder City seems to have taken that joke too seriously. The game’s newly posted recommended system requirements ask for an astonishing 64GB of RAM. This figure has raised eyebrows, especially since the rest of the specifications appear surprisingly… standard.

Xbox may allow you to digitize your game discs, and the timing is quite fitting
Sony offered no support for disc owners, but Microsoft’s Disc2Digital could change that.
Earlier today, Sony revealed it will cease the production of physical game discs for new PlayStation titles beginning January 2028. It appears Microsoft is moving in a similar direction, but with a consumer-friendly twist: Xbox users may not have to abandon their disc collections.
According to The Verge's Tom Warren, Microsoft has been quietly developing a disc-to-digital feature for Xbox, internally known as Disc2Digital, which would enable players to transform their physical games into permanent digital licenses.
