A leak regarding the iPhone 18 Pro Max suggests that its battery capacity surpasses that of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Apple may finally surpass 5,400mAh with its upcoming Pro Max iPhone
Apple has faced numerous leaks during this cycle. Although we are still a few months away from the anticipated iPhone 18 launch, a wealth of information has already emerged. Details such as images, factory testing information, potential colors, and camera enhancements have been revealed. Now, the battery capacity has also been disclosed.
According to a recent leak from Weibo by 朵哥互联科技, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may come with varying battery capacities based on the market. The model featuring a physical SIM slot is reported to have a 5,235mAh battery, while the eSIM-only version could reach up to 5,425mAh.
Apple may finally achieve a significant battery milestone
These figures would be unusually high for an iPhone. More importantly, both versions would surpass the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which has a 5,000mAh battery.
Apple has never prioritized merely having the largest battery numbers on paper. Instead, iPhones typically depend on efficient hardware and software optimization to deliver impressive battery life. A larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro Max, combined with Apple's anticipated A20 Pro chip, could make battery life one of the device's most significant improvements.
The regional differentiation adds another layer to the narrative. Apple already offers eSIM-only iPhones in select markets, and eliminating the physical SIM tray could create additional internal space. If this leak holds true, that space may once again accommodate a larger battery in eSIM-only variants.
Samsung may not be far behind
The comparison with Samsung may not endure indefinitely. There are already rumors suggesting that Samsung plans to upgrade the battery for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, pushing it beyond the current 5,000mAh threshold of the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
For now, both Apple and Samsung seem to be opting for a more cautious approach. While battery capacities may be increasing, neither smartphone manufacturer appears ready to adopt silicon-carbon cells, a technology that Chinese flagship phones have utilized for years to accommodate larger batteries without significantly increasing device bulk.

The Razr Fold improves compatibility with iPhones thanks to AirDrop
Motorola's inaugural foldable has acquired a new capability, and I’m now inclined to use it daily.
I already had more reasons than I expected to hold onto the Motorola Razr Fold. During my review, the company’s first foldable truly impressed me with its level of refinement. A practical outer display, excellent cameras, robust battery life, and a stunning folding screen made me consider switching to this device as my main phone.
Now, Motorola has added yet another reason, enhancing the appeal for me. The Motorola Razr Fold now supports AirDrop-like file sharing through Android’s Quick Share, making it the first Motorola phone to feature this functionality. This allows Razr Fold users to directly share files with Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs without depending on cloud links, messaging apps, USB cables, or the usual cross-platform complications.
