This $1,299 gaming PC aims to become a Steam Machine without having to wait for Valve.

Valve’s Steam Machine vision has come to life with MetaPC's new prebuilt offering.

While Valve's Steam Machine represents SteamOS, the platform is not limited to it. Following the introduction of the Steam Machine, it was announced that SteamOS would also be available on systems beyond this new hybrid console. Now, MetaPC is among the first to utilize this by launching preorders for the Steamroller, a new prebuilt gaming desktop that comes with SteamOS pre-installed.

The Steamroller does not aim to be a compact console-like device; rather, it resembles a traditional desktop PC with standard components and a genuine upgrade path. Priced at $1,299, it is set for preorder starting July 3, 2026.

Steamroller features an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X paired with a Radeon RX 7600, along with 16GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Additionally, it includes either a B650M or B850M Wi-Fi motherboard, a 240mm AIO liquid cooler, and a 650W 80+ Gold power supply, all housed within a black Jonsbo D32 case.

These specifications make it align more closely with a standard gaming desktop, rather than the forthcoming gaming hardware from Valve. To recall, the Steam Machine featured a unique enclosure and custom AMD components, designed to fit a living-room aesthetic. However, MetaPC’s new prebuilt shares one significant feature: SteamOS.

SteamOS desktops are not a novel concept. Valve attempted this with the original Steam Machines from brands like Alienware, Zotac, and CyberPower back in 2015, but that initial wave failed to gain traction. Since the Steam Machine's unveiling, competitors have emerged, including questionable Chinese imitations.

The key difference today is that SteamOS benefits from years of momentum from the Steam Deck. Proton has seen considerable improvements, and developers are increasingly focused on Deck compatibility. Valve is also extending SteamOS' reach beyond its handheld device. With these specifications and the platform, this machine is expected to perform well for 1080p desktop gaming.

After the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, the iMac may be next to receive an OLED screen upgrade.

The iPhone introduced an OLED display in 2017, followed by the iPad Pro in 2024. The MacBook Pro is also anticipated to receive this upgrade later this year or early next year. However, the situation for the iMac remains uncertain.

According to TrendForce, an OLED upgrade for the iMac is on the horizon. Although a specific timeline is not yet available, the intention is clear. Apple aims to transition its current display technologies to OLED, enhancing color quality for both everyday users and professionals.

This inexpensive Steam Machine clone seems too good to be true, and it probably is.

Valve’s new Steam Machine has sparked considerable sticker shock, leading to a surge of lower-priced alternatives flooding the online market. With Valve pricing its compact SteamOS PC over $1,000, it’s no shock that others are attempting to deliver a similar experience for a lower cost.

A listing from China exemplifies this trend but appears overly suspicious. According to VideoCardz, a Reddit-shared listing for a Steam Machine-style mini PC claims it offers a compact SteamOS system featuring a 2TB SSD, an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 processor, Radeon RX 6750 GRE 10GB graphics, 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a price tag of 4,680 RMB, approximately $688. This sounds phenomenal... if it were genuine.

A YouTuber has created an entire outfit via 3D printing, though the comfort and cost aspects are more complicated than one might assume.

The 3D-printed outfit is a reality, but its practicality is another matter entirely.

YouTuber Matthew Trahan has built a career around 3D printing increasingly unconventional items. He has manufactured musical instruments, bedroom furniture, and, in one notable video, even himself.

His latest endeavor involves creating a full outfit, from shirt to shoes, and belt to glasses, despite seemingly not realizing that 3D printers are typically used for engineering prototypes or impractical structures rather than for fashion week.
