Following the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, the iMac may be the next device to receive an upgrade to an OLED display.

The iPhone was equipped with an OLED display in 2017, and the iPad Pro followed suit in 2024. Additionally, the MacBook Pro is anticipated to adopt OLED technology later this year or early next year. But what about the iMac?
As reported by TrendForce, the iMac may also receive an OLED upgrade. There is currently no set timeline, but it’s evident that Apple aims to transition from its present display technologies to OLED, elevating color quality for both everyday users and professionals.

So, what’s changing?
The latest AMOLED market report from TrendForce indicates that Apple intends to implement OLED panels—covering 95% of the BT.2020 color gamut—across future models of the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and iMac.
This represents a significant improvement over the current DCI-P3 standard used in its products. For those unfamiliar, BT.2020 is a much broader color space that necessitates higher color purity, tighter spectral control (reducing color reproduction errors), and improved energy efficiency.
Naturally, these panels require more advanced engineering, making their manufacture slightly more complex and costly compared to standard AMOLED panels.

In practice, this could mean that Apple's future displays may offer more accurate colors and appear more vibrant and bright. This enhancement would be particularly beneficial for tasks such as video editing and color grading, while also complementing the vast array of HDR content available on YouTube and streaming platforms.
When can we expect an OLED iMac?
That's the tricky part. The market research firm indicates that the iMac is included in Apple's OLED strategy, but does not provide a specific timeline.
With the MacBook Pro expected in 2026 or early 2027, Apple's usual schedule might suggest that an OLED iMac could hit the market sometime in 2027 or 2028.

Beyond updates specific to Mac, the report also mentions advancements in OLED technology itself. Manufacturers are developing innovative emissive architectures such as hyperfluorescence, which further enhance color purity and energy efficiency.

Valve’s Steam Machine may represent SteamOS, but it's not exclusive to that platform. However, the Steamroller does not aim to be a compact console-like unit; it's a standard desktop PC with regular components and an upgrade path. The system is priced at $1,299 and is available for preorder starting July 3, 2026.

This seems fantastic… if it's genuine.
