This Oppo phone features an eye-catching 3D back, but its magnetic Bubble is the standout feature.
Oppo’s Reno 16 Pro aims to serve as your camera, editor, and vanity mirror
Oppo has commenced the global rollout of the Reno 16 Pro, delivering to Europe a new stylish, camera-oriented Android phone with some impressive specifications.
The European version is available in Germany and Austria in a single configuration of 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage. It is priced at €1,099, although Oppo is offering an introductory discount that lowers the price to €899 until July 31. Pre-orders are currently available, with the official release slated for July 3. Given that the Reno lineup is seen as the brand’s upper mid-range option, the pricing is significant. However, Oppo is not increasing prices without reason. It is positioning the Reno line closer to the premium segment, emphasizing its cameras, design, and features appealing to creators.
The camera configuration is the standout feature
In spite of its eye-catching appearance, the most notable specification of the Reno 16 Pro is its 200MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). This is complemented by a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP telephoto portrait camera, while selfies are managed by a 50MP front camera providing a wide 100-degree field of view. Oppo is heavily promoting video and creation capabilities, with the phone supporting 4K video features, front-camera portrait video, AI Remix Collage, and Oppo Bubble support.
The latter is particularly exciting. Oppo has introduced the Bubble as a standalone magnetic smart display accessory that functions as a rear-camera preview screen, a remote shutter, and a customizable mini display. Essentially, it acts as a camera viewfinder, allowing users to utilize the more advanced rear camera for selfies.
Compact design with a powerful battery
The global version of the Reno 16 Pro differs from the Chinese model. The European/global variant features a 6.32-inch OLED display with up to a 144Hz refresh rate, whereas the Chinese model was launched earlier with a larger 6.78-inch LTPO screen. This means you’re getting a nearly flagship-level display. This variant is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super platform, with options for up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Oppo has also included ColorOS 16, an AI-centric Snap Key, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.4, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and robust IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K dust and water resistance.
Battery capacity also varies by region. The European Reno 16 Pro is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery featuring 80W SuperVOOC charging, while the global version sports a larger 6,700mAh battery. Rather than battling rising component costs and a RAM shortage, Oppo appears to be capitalizing on high-end hardware to justify the pricing. At this rate, it will compete with the more powerful Xiaomi 17T Pro in the market, along with other established flagship devices. To differentiate itself, Oppo has also designed these impressive specs into a compact form factor with a striking new 3D back that resembles a floating layer.

Don’t relax just yet. Apple and Microsoft are not finished with price increases.
The recent price hikes for Xbox and Apple devices may serve as a caution for the broader tech industry.
Earlier today, Microsoft raised the prices of its Xbox consoles by up to $150 in the U.S. Just hours prior, Apple announced comparable increases for its Mac and iPad products, along with raising the price of its Vision Pro headset and several other items, excluding the iPhone. However, it appears these two corporations are not yet done with their price hikes.
Neither company has explicitly stated that further increases are imminent, but their comments imply otherwise. For instance, Apple shared a statement with The Washington Post earlier today.
