The long-awaited network speed indicator is finally making its appearance in One UI 9

Samsung is currently a few weeks into the testing of One UI 9 with Galaxy S26 beta users, and a newly identified feature in the latest build feels like it has been a long time coming. This feature is the network speed indicator, a straightforward status bar tool that is commonly found on other Android devices, making it surprising that Galaxy phones have been without it for so long.

This feature can even be found on budget Android phones from brands like OnePlus, Oppo, and Xiaomi. It displays real-time upload and download activity in the status bar while the phone is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, allowing users a quick way to verify if their connection is actively transferring data.

Samsung is introducing it via Good Lock

As reported by SammyGuru, the network speed indicator has been discovered in One UI 9 through Samsung’s Good Lock customization suite. More specifically, it seems to be part of the updated QuickStar module, which allows Galaxy users to customize the status bar and Quick Panel.

Once activated, the indicator appears in the status bar and shows live speeds in KB/s, MB/s, or GB/s, depending on current network utilization. It works with both Wi-Fi and mobile data, meaning users won’t need to rely on a third-party application. If a video is buffering, downloads are slow, or an app is unresponsive, the speed meter can quickly indicate whether the phone is utilizing the network or remaining idle.

What other updates are included in the One UI 9 beta?

The latest beta updates also feature new AI-powered capabilities, enhanced accessibility tools, additional Good Lock customization options, and privacy enhancements, including a refined Lockdown Mode that can quickly disable biometric authentication.

Samsung opened the One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series last month in select regions, such as India, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Poland, and South Korea. The beta update is anticipated to be available in the Philippines next. As for the stable version, a specific date has not yet been confirmed, although One UI 9 is expected to launch in July, coinciding with Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy foldables.

Galaxy S25 users are finally receiving some previously unavailable One UI 8.5 AI features

Prioritize Notifications, Summarize Notifications, and File Summaries are now available on the Galaxy S25, but the Now Nudge feature is still absent

Last month, Samsung released the One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy S25 series, but users soon realized that several AI features present in the Galaxy S26 series were missing. This led to confusion and disappointment among Galaxy S25 owners, who were left wondering about the extent of Samsung’s long-term software support.

Now, it seems that Samsung is addressing part of the issue with the June 2026 update, which reportedly adds three of the missing Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy S25 series. The update has begun rolling out in South Korea and includes the June 2026 Android security patch. The firmware has the build number S938NKSUACZF1.

Waiting for smartphone prices to decrease? Nothing's CEO has grim news for you

Carl Pei has a vested interest in this issue, but the RAM shortage he describes is genuine, and the price hikes he mentions are already impacting smartphones available for purchase today.

If you have been postponing the purchase of a new phone in hopes of finding a better deal, perhaps a discount on a model released in the first quarter of the year, Nothing’s co-founder Carl Pei has a straightforward message for you: stop waiting.

In a post on X, Pei discussed how 2026 is significantly altering smartphone pricing in unprecedented ways. As expected, the main factor is a component that now constitutes more than 50% of the total hardware cost.

Scammers employed Gemini AI to execute a vast phishing operation, and Google has now filed a lawsuit against them

Google has taken legal action against the AI scam network that has been sending millions of fraudulent texts and creating thousands of deceptive websites.

That questionable text about an unpaid toll, a delayed delivery, or expiring rewards points may no longer be coming from an isolated scammer. These scam messages have inundated American phones for years, but there has been a shift.

Google reports that artificial intelligence is enabling cybercriminals to conduct more extensive and convincing operations than ever. The company has now filed a lawsuit against a cybercrime network that utilized Gemini AI to generate phishing websites and orchestrate a massive scam campaign targeting millions of users.
