The new Stockwell III by Marshall addresses the issue that many Bluetooth speakers overlook.

The new Stockwell III by Marshall addresses the issue that many Bluetooth speakers overlook.

For years, Bluetooth speakers have adhered to a well-known formula: improved sound quality, longer battery life, perhaps a touch of waterproofing, and then it’s onto the next iteration. Marshall’s latest Stockwell III certainly meets these criteria, but its most noteworthy enhancement isn’t related to sound quality at all. It focuses on longevity.

The Stockwell III marks Marshall’s first update of its portable speaker since 2019, maintaining the same travel-friendly design with its iconic strap and retro-inspired look. At first glance, it seems like a familiar update. However, beneath the surface, Marshall is making a significant move toward repairability.

The battery is no longer the end of the story.

It features a replaceable battery, which is uncommon in today’s portable audio gadgets. While most Bluetooth speakers have a countdown timer from the moment they are purchased, the Stockwell III provides a means to prolong its life as the battery begins to diminish.

Anyone who has owned a portable speaker for a few years understands that battery wear often leads to a still-working device being stowed away. By incorporating a replaceable battery, Marshall addresses one of the major shortcomings in portable electronics.

The company has also doubled the battery life, boosting the Stockwell III’s playback duration from 20 hours to over 40 hours. This implies fewer charging cycles, potentially leading to a more enduring product overall.

Marshall isn’t limiting themselves to just the battery. Owners can also replace the carrying strap, front and rear grilles, and even the outer protective sleeve. This design philosophy is increasingly significant as consumers grow more aware of electronic waste and the escalating costs of frequently replacing devices.

A speaker that ages with grace

The repair-friendly design offers another advantage: resale value. A worn strap, scratched surface, or aging battery can make even high-end speakers appear old. The ability to replace these components might help the Stockwell III maintain its appearance and functionality much closer to new for an extended period.

In addition to durability, Marshall has introduced several practical enhancements. The speaker now functions as a USB-C power bank for charging other devices, and its durability is bolstered with an IP55 rating that provides improved protection against dust and water damage. The brass control panel has also been updated with a customizable sound-profile button and dedicated media controls.

The Stockwell III still aims to be a portable speaker. It simply happens to be one that’s crafted to endure much longer than most.

A guide to Sony’s 2026 TVs and home theater lineup

Sony’s latest BRAVIA series introduces True RGB technology alongside new televisions and home theater audio products.

Sony believes it may have discovered the secret to home theater this year. The company is not merely releasing new TVs; it is rethinking how televisions reproduce color with innovative True RGB technology while simultaneously expanding its home theater selection with products like the BRAVIA Theater Trio. After an early preview of the lineup in New York, it became evident why Sony considers True RGB to be a major highlight in its 2026 offerings. The technology was the focal point of Sony's presentation, but the overarching messages were equally compelling. According to the company, many high-end TVs are still optimized for ideal viewing environments rather than the places where most people actually watch television. Sony provided data indicating that only about 13% of viewers watch content in settings comparable to a movie theater or professional grading suite, with the remaining 87% viewing in bright living rooms, open floor plans, and spaces with fluctuating lighting throughout the day.
