01Health secures £11.2 million for its specialized care platform.
01Health, a healthtech firm based in London, has secured £11.2M ($15M) in Series A funding to expand the clinical platform utilized by its dental brands and offer it to other practices. The funding round was led by Gresham House Ventures, with additional support from existing investors Balderton Capital, Eka Ventures, and Wavemaker360, along with angel investors, including Blockchain.com co-founder Nicolas Cary.
01Health is the newly branded parent company of 32Co, an orthodontic network, and Aerox Health, which specializes in dental sleep medicine. Both entities already utilize its software. With the rebranding, the company is introducing its platform as an independent product for the first time, enabling practices and dental service organizations to license it directly, rather than solely through 01Health’s brands.
What 01Health offers
The platform integrates clinical oversight, specialized protocols, workflow management, patient communication, and a feature known as '01 Intelligence', which provides an AI component for clinical tasks and patient acquisition. The proposition is that local clinics can safely provide specialized treatments with the kind of protocols and supervision typically found in hospitals or on Harley Street.
Founded in 2022 by Dr. Sonia Szamocki, a former NHS doctor and BCG consultant who serves as the CEO, 01Health asserts that specialized care is often confined to large hospitals and urban areas, while community clinics lack the necessary systems to provide such care. The company claims that 90 percent of the UK population now resides within 30 minutes of a dentist using its platform through 32Co, although this statistic has not been independently verified.
“Our mission is centered on improving access to specialized care for communities that have historically been underserved,” Szamocki stated.
The funding comes during a busy period for health tech in the UK and Europe, with investors also supporting companies like Rem3dy Health, Ditto (which focuses on clinical documentation), and Parallel (which offers hospital-workflow AI). The common theme among these investments is software aimed at alleviating the burden on overloaded hospitals by improving care delivery or administrative processes.
Presently, 01Health primarily operates in the dental sector. The company has surpassed 100 employees and reports that trials are ongoing in clinical fields beyond dentistry, with platform trials also being conducted in the United States, where it has appointed a head of US commercial operations. The Series A funding will facilitate growth in the UK, expansion into the US market, and the launch of the public platform.
An unresolved concern is the platform's market reach. While selling orthodontic workflows to dentists is relatively straightforward, persuading other specialties and their regulators that a high-street clinic can safely provide hospital-level care using shared software presents a greater challenge that this funding round is intended to address.
