Amazon introduces an unusual AI search feature that generates fake product images to direct you to actual items you can buy.

Amazon has rolled out a new feature that might seem unconventional. When you input a visual description, such as “flannel shirt” or “blue and white gingham dress,” into the Amazon app, it now creates AI-generated images of products in real-time as you type.

These images are not real products available for purchase; they are entirely fictional and serve solely as visual prompts to assist you in finding similar items. Your perception of this feature’s usefulness or absurdity likely depends on your tolerance for AI solutions addressing problems you may not have recognized.

Amazon believes that fake AI product images can enhance your shopping experience.

Amazon argues that shoppers often find it challenging to articulate their wants. For instance, you might desire a shirt featuring a draped neckline but might not know it is referred to as a ‘cowl neck.’ The AI-generated images aim to close that gap, allowing you to select the closest match and browse actual products that resemble it. This feature is currently limited to clothing and home goods and is accessible on both Android and iOS.

Additionally, Amazon offers a separate Shop by Style feature that presents AI-generated outfit collages where the clothing items depicted are real and available for purchase. Tapping on a collage directs you to a curated page where you can shop for individual items, explore similar products, or swipe through different styles. This functionality appears to be more beneficial than viewing a fictional dress.

Amazon has been integrating AI across various aspects of your shopping experience.

The company has launched Alexa for Shopping, a conversational AI assistant to aid in buying decisions, allowing for real interactions with AI while browsing products.

Amazon has also tried converting product pages into podcasts, a venture that did not particularly resonate with users. With Prime Day occurring from June 23 to 26 this year, Amazon clearly aims for all these tools to be operational before its major shopping event.

Google Photos on Android now provides a dedicated space for your custom stickers.

A new Stickers folder in the Collections section saves every custom sticker you create, eliminating the need to search for them again.

After introducing a useful sticker creation feature on iOS last year, Google Photos brought it to Android users this February. This feature allows for easy sticker creation with a simple long-press gesture, making it convenient to share custom stickers with friends and family. Google is now enhancing this experience by adding a dedicated folder that automatically stores every sticker you’ve created.

Malwarebytes launches a new free tool to help identify missed calls from unknown numbers, alerting you if it's a scam.

With $21 billion lost by Americans last year due to phone scams, a free reverse lookup tool now takes the guesswork out of evaluating unknown calls.

Missed calls from unfamiliar numbers have become more challenging to dismiss, especially as scammers replicate real local numbers and mimic familiar voices using AI. Malwarebytes has introduced a direct solution for this issue.

The new standalone reverse phone lookup tool, named Scam Number Check, informs you if a number is safe, suspicious, or recognized as a scam, preventing unnecessary callbacks. It is available at malwarebytes.com/scam-check/phone, and the best part is that no account or subscription is required for access.
