A leaked 100MP square-format front sensor for the OPPO Find X10 would position it as the first Android smartphone to rethink the design of selfie cameras.

The last time a selfie camera truly impressed me was with the iPhone 17's Center Stage front camera, yet no Android brand has managed to come close. It seems that smartphone manufacturers have overlooked front cameras, resulting in a lack of significant innovation in recent years.

However, Oppo might change this trend this year. A Chinese leakster, Digital Chat Station (via Weibo), has claimed that Oppo is testing a 100MP square-format front camera sensor for its upcoming Find X10 series. If it makes it to commercial release, the Find X10 will be the first Android device to feature a 1:1 square selfie sensor.

Why is a square sensor significant for selfies?

Up until now, Android devices have been equipped with rectangular sensors designed for vertical framing or portrait orientation. A 1:1 square sensor alters the geometry completely.

Firstly, it offers a broader field of view in all directions, allowing more people to fit into a group selfie without needing to step back, or enabling cropping for a portrait Instagram post or a landscape YouTube thumbnail.

For group selfies, live streaming, and creator content where users frequently switch orientations, a 1:1 square sensor represents a true enhancement to user experience, rather than just a number on a spec sheet.

Doesn’t the iPhone 17 already feature that?

For reference, Apple's iPhone 17 employs a similar square sensor for its Center Stage camera, but it has an 18MP resolution. I have been using the iPhone for over nine months, and its selfie capabilities are extraordinary.

In an instant, the camera can adjust from accommodating four people to capturing a group of 10 to 12 in a single selfie. My favorite feature is the horizontal wide-angle selfie mode. However, I occasionally feel that the experience could greatly benefit from a higher resolution selfie camera.

This is the issue that the forthcoming Oppo flagship may address with its 100MP selfie sensor, which is expected to allow for greater flexibility in digital cropping and zooming. Reports suggest the sensor will be a custom Samsung-made chip, measuring around 1/2.5 inches in size.

While there is no confirmed launch date for the Find X10, the device is expected to be unveiled later this year.

Apple Music may soon allow users to access its service at lower prices.

For years, Apple Music has differentiated itself from competitors like Spotify by not offering a free listening tier. Though that may remain unchanged for now, a recently uncovered indication suggests that Apple might be exploring different subscription tiers for its music platform.

This discovery comes from developer Aaron Perris, who found new strings within the beta version of Apple Music for Android. Among them are mentions of "premium access" and an error message that appears when users reach a track-skipping limit. While these strings alone provide little information, they hint at an intriguing potential shift.

Google Drive can now batch-scan documents, alleviating several common frustrations.

The automated scanning function operates entirely on your device, without transmitting anything to Google’s servers.

Scanning documents via phone has often been a frustrating task, especially on Android devices. Users typically face challenges such as scanning one page at a time, capturing blurry images that aren't noticed until later, or accidentally hovering over the same page twice—issues that can be irritating day by day.

Google Drive's redesigned document scanner addresses all these problems simultaneously. Announced by Sameer Samat, the President of Android Ecosystem at Google, this feature is now being rolled out to Android users.

I spent a day with the Xiaomi 17T Pro, and Leica cameras made every photo irresistible.

The collaboration between Leica and Xiaomi started off on a rocky note. Such partnerships, although featuring renowned brands, often felt vague. Simply adding a logo to the camera module and making minor color adjustments leaves one wondering about the actual impact on photo quality, particularly when the price of the device increases.

However, these collaborations have yielded impressive results over the past few years, and a device that clearly showcases this is the Xiaomi 17T Pro.
