The upcoming Oppo flagship may enhance your selfies with a 100-megapixel front camera.
A leaked 100MP square-format front sensor for the OPPO Find X10 could make it the first Android phone to rethink the design of selfie cameras.
The last time a selfie camera truly impressed me was with the iPhone 17’s Center Stage feature, yet no Android brand seems to have approached its level. It appears that smartphone manufacturers have overlooked improvements for front cameras, as there has been a lack of significant advancements in recent years.
However, Oppo may alter this trend this year. Chinese insider Digital Chat Station (via Weibo) reports that Oppo is experimenting with a 100MP square-format front camera sensor for its expected Find X10 series. If it becomes available in a commercial release, the Find X10 would be the first Android smartphone to include a 1:1 square selfie sensor.
What is the importance of a square sensor for selfies?
Up to this point, Android phones have been equipped with rectangular sensors designed for vertical framing or portrait shots. A 1:1 square sensor completely transforms this geometry.
Firstly, it captures a broader field of view in all directions, allowing for more people to be included in a group selfie without needing to step back, or the same image can be cropped for a portrait Instagram post or a landscape YouTube thumbnail.
For group selfies, live streaming, and content creation where users frequently change orientations, a 1:1 square sensor is genuinely a quality-of-life enhancement rather than just a specification.
Doesn’t the iPhone 17 already feature that?
To provide some context, Apple’s iPhone 17 utilizes a comparable square sensor for its Center Stage camera, albeit with an 18MP sensor. I have used this smartphone for over nine months, and the selfie capabilities are remarkable.
In an instant, the camera can accommodate groups ranging from four to 10 to 12 people in the same selfie. My preferred setting is the horizontal wide-angle selfie. However, there are instances where I feel a higher-resolution selfie camera would have improved the experience.
This is a challenge the upcoming Oppo flagship might address with its 100MP selfie camera, which should enable more versatility for digital cropping and zooming. The sensor is said to be a custom-made Samsung chip that measures about 1/2.5 inches.
While no launch date has been confirmed for the Find X10, it is expected to be unveiled later this year.

You might soon be able to use Apple Music without paying full price.
Apple Music has maintained its distinction from Spotify and other streaming competitors by not providing a free listening tier. Although that might not change immediately, a newly found hint indicates that Apple could be testing different subscription options for its music service.
This information comes from developer Aaron Perris, who discovered new strings in the beta version of Apple Music for Android. Among these are mentions of “premium access” and an error message that occurs when a user exceeds a track-skipping limit. Alone, these strings don’t provide much information. However, they suggest an intriguing possibility.
Google Drive can now batch-scan your documents and alleviate some other frustrations, too.
The automated scanning process operates entirely on your device, without sending anything to Google’s servers.
Scanning documents from a phone has often been a frustrating experience, particularly on Android devices. Users typically face challenges such as scanning one page at a time, capturing blurry images that are not noticed until later, or mistakenly scanning the same page twice. These issues consistently trouble users.
Now, Google Drive’s redesigned document scanner addresses all three of these problems simultaneously. This feature has been announced by Sameer Samat, the President of Android Ecosystem at Google, and is currently being rolled out to Android users.
I spent a day with the Xiaomi 17T Pro, and Leica cameras made every shot enticing.
Leica and Xiaomi made me pull out this phone for "just one more" shot.
The collaboration between phone cameras and notable brands had a rocky beginning. While these partnerships introduced well-known names, they sometimes felt superficial. Simply placing a brand logo on the camera module and making a few adjustments to the color could leave you questioning how much it genuinely impacts the photos, especially given the increased cost of the device.
However, such collaborations have yielded great results in recent years, with the Xiaomi 17T Pro clearly showcasing this improvement.
