Amazon has recently revealed three animated series created using AI, and they will be available on Prime Video.
Amazon MGM Studios and AWS are sponsoring AI-generated animation for Prime Video
AI has officially entered the animation sector, with Prime Video at the forefront. Amazon MGM Studios and Amazon Web Services have collaboratively introduced the GenAI Creators’ Fund, a new program that provides filmmakers with access to professional-grade AI production tools and funding that they previously lacked.
The initial outcomes include three animated series that have been approved and are set to debut on Prime Video: Punky Duck, Love, Diana Music Hunters, and Cupcake & Friends.
The three AI-animated series coming to Prime Video
First on the list is Punky Duck, created by Emmy winner Jorge R. Gutierrez, known for The Book of Life. The series features an endearing punk duck and his best friend, Smiley Cat, navigating a wildly exaggerated Los Angeles, where they encounter alien invasions, robot plots, and enormous monsters.
Next is Love, Diana Music Hunters, brought to life by Albie Hecht, the former president of Nickelodeon who was involved in the creation of SpongeBob SquarePants. This series depicts a group of K-pop musicians who journey to Planet Goo, where they must hold a concert to restore music and rescue alien lives. The main character, Diana, is said to be the most-followed girl on YouTube.
Cupcake & Friends, produced by BuzzFeed Studios, revolves around a cupcake and her friends as they navigate the unexpected chaos of a sleepover. No release dates have been announced for any of the series.
Introducing Project Nara, the AI platform that powers these productions
At the core of these shows is Project Nara, Amazon MGM Studios’ custom-designed AI production platform utilizing AWS infrastructure.
This platform integrates seamlessly with industry-standard tools such as Maya, Blender, Nuke, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Suite, efficiently directing tasks to the most suitable AI model for each one.
Creators were reportedly given only five weeks to submit their pilots, highlighting the rapid pace of this technology.
According to the studio, every creative decision is made by humans, with real actors and voice talent featured in each show. Whether this commitment remains as the technology continues to advance remains to be seen.
