Sony aims to use AI to transform your gaming experiences into shareable highlights.
Sony's new patent could simplify the process of sharing your gaming highlights, making it as easy as playing the game.
If you've ever gone on a wild spree in a multiplayer game and wanted to share that experience, you understand how cumbersome it can be. You have to record the gameplay, sift through the footage, clip the highlight moments, edit them, and then share. Sony aims to change that, with AI playing a key role in the process.
According to MP1st, Sony Interactive Entertainment submitted a patent application to the USPTO on May 5, 2026, under document ID “12616902,” for an AI system that automatically identifies your best gaming moments and creates shareable highlights without any effort from you.
So, how will this work?
The patent indicates that the system will analyze your gameplay in real time, gathering data on various events such as kills, victories, boss defeats, rare occurrences, and even humorous or unexpected incidents. A machine learning model will then determine which moments are worth highlighting.
What makes this intriguing is that the AI will take your personal player profile into account. Factors such as your skill level, typical play style, and frequency of performing specific moves will influence the highlights. For instance, a beginner's first win will be marked as noteworthy, while it wouldn't be significant for an experienced player. The system is built to recognize what is special to you, rather than just selecting generic impressive moments anyone could accomplish.
Once a moment is captured, the system will create a polished “moment asset.” This might include a stylized highlight card, a screenshot collage with a brief description, a clean video clip, or even a 3D collectible. Instead of unedited raw footage, you'll receive something ready to be posted on social media or shared on Discord immediately.
But will this actually become a reality?
Sony and other gaming companies frequently file patents, with many never being implemented. Even if this patent progresses, don't expect it to be part of a PS5 system update anytime soon. This seems more like a feature Sony could be aiming for with the PS6.
However, if Sony succeeds in this endeavor, it would be a significant benefit for anyone who enjoys sharing gaming moments online. It could also enhance Sony's social media presence, as even those inexperienced in video editing could share their memorable clips. It would indeed be a win-win for everyone involved.

I dislike scalpers, and Valve’s Steam Machine reservation system is precisely what we need.
Valve may have discovered an effective method for distributing the Steam Machine.
I cannot stand scalpers, especially when they target gaming hardware that is already scarce. They purchase items before regular customers and gamers have a chance, then resell them at exorbitant prices to those who genuinely wanted to use them. This problem has recurred frequently, but Valve's recent move might be one of the most effective anti-scalper strategies we've seen in a while. Steam's database now indicates that Valve may be preparing a reservation queue system for the upcoming Steam Machine. This information reportedly comes from a recent Steam update, noted by user Pepeizq, which included references to multiple Steam Machine packages within the reservation system code utilized for the Steam Controller.
Wordle is set to become a TV show on NBC, and it already feels like a betrayal.
Wordle will transition into an NBC primetime game show by 2027.
Every morning, millions of individuals engage with Wordle, staring at a blank grid and immersed in a solitary contest with five letters. There’s no host narrating your every action, no studio audience reacting to your mistakes, and absolutely no one cheering you on. It’s just you, the word, and the slight feeling of satisfaction that comes with solving it in three attempts or fewer.
Discord Nitro now offers Xbox Game Pass as an added incentive.
Discord has provided gamers with another compelling reason to purchase Nitro.
Over the years, Discord and Xbox have collaborated various times, typically with Xbox providing Discord Nitro benefits through one of its subscription options, such as Game Pass Ultimate. This time, however, the roles are reversed. Discord is now rewarding users who buy Nitro with the "Starter Edition" of Xbox Game Pass. The Game Pass Starter Edition is part of Discord's new benefit program called Nitro Rewards, which also includes various attractive offers like discount coupons for gaming peripheral brands and extra monthly Orbs.
